I love it when athletes think they should always get preferential treatment, and are thus oblivious to how 99% of the world really lives their lives. After getting knocked around in a crucial game for a chase to the playoffs, Carlos Zambrano got booed at home. This is apparently unacceptable to him.
> "I don't understand why the fans were booing at me. I can't understand that," Zambrano said. "They showed me today they just care about them. That's no fair. Because when you are struggling, that's when you want to feel the support of the fans."
See, this is what I enjoy about people that clearly, are out of touch with reality. Most of us go about our business, we work hard, and when we screw something up at work, we get yelled for it, and maybe even fired. This guy? He gets booed and he calls everyone else selfish - that's fantastic. Let's put aside for a second that he plays baseball, which is not really a job. And let's put aside that he's making more in one game than the average toiling American makes in a year. All that stuff not withstanding, the fans are really the ones that pay his salary - they pay the outrageous ticket prices to see him go out there and toss the ball around for several hundred thousand a time.
Let's feel bad for the guy that now has financial security for the rest of his life, and his entire family, for getting booed. Financial security, as mentioned earlier, given to him by the very same fans that are unhappy with his recent performance. A performance, by the way that has at least warranted the booing. It's not as if this was one bad inning and the fans got on their high horse. No, this has been a stretch of 5 winless games, in which he's been the goat. I'd say that's more than worthy of a couple of boo birds.
Who are the geniuses that keep giving contract extensions during the middle of the year? Off the top of my head, I already know three (Zambrano, Westbrook, and Pronk) that got big contracts and immediately forgot how to play baseball. Wait till the end, so that they have something to work for. Grow up Carlos, if you don't want to get booed, don't suck.
It could be worse, he could have given a curtain call. Well played Cliff, well played.
