Zach Randolph to the Knicks? Ok!

In case you didn't hear, it appears the New York Knicks are sending Channing Frye and Steve Francis to the Jailblazers for Zach Randolph (and Dan Dickau and Fred Jones). The Blazers are making room for Oden, and the Knicks are trying to do something. Well anything to get better.

At first glance, I wasn't sure that I liked it. Two extra years over Francis' large contract. Off the court issues. I wanted the Knicks to clean out the long deals and start over. This is a big though, and a big that can board. 23/10 last year. Curry will look a lot better next to him. And the huge contract isn't so bad if Randolph plays up to it.

Could Isaiah have made a really good move here? Your thoughts?

I think this makes them immediate division contenders, not that means that much. I like this MUCH better than a Kobe move. Of course, all of this is contingent upon his off the court issues not acting up. Maybe Isaiah brings Bobby Knight in to kick his butt. (I'm not serious about that.)

Starting 5:

C: Eddy Curry

PF: Zach Randolph

SF: David Lee??

SG: Jamal Crawford

PG: Stephon Marbury

I Like It.

So wait.

The Knicks get a legit PF.

They give up an overrated 2-guard who wants to play the point, and a soft "power" forward.

And they get two guys who have "movable contracts", to coin a term.

What's not to like?

Works for the Blazers, too -- Frye is an adequate backup for Aldridge/Oden (be it at PF or C), and Francis and Roy probably split the guard play, with Jarrett Jack rotating in.

Dickau and Jones will probably never see a Knicks uni, either. Do we really have reason to hope here? Or am I crazy.

Crazy. I'm a Bobcats fan anyway. Partially because of Emeka, and partially because I saw them win at the Garden this year, and I want to be able to say that I saw my team win at the Garden.

Oh, some scrub -- Jerome James or the other JJ guy -- probably plays a "big" 3, or maybe Renaldo Balkman gets a shot?

He gets Sprewell's old number? Is that an Omen??? What's the over/under on games before Randolph's next arrest?

The Blazers traded him for a reason...meanwhile Steve Francis gets to relax and play basketball. Frye gets to get help from Aldridge and Oden...

Knicks fans are funny.

There's alot of consideration with this move, both good and bad. The biggest negative:

Francis (07-09)

$16,440,000 $17,180,000

Randolph (07-11)

$13,333,333 $14,666,666 $16,000,000 $17,333,333

So we unloaded an untradable guy making too much money for a good player making too much money for another two years. Taking on long term contracts has done nothing good for the Knicks, why do we think it'll start doing good now?

What I do like about this deal is that we absolutly got the better of it on paper. It is great that we found a taker for Francis, who I thought we would be stuck with for two more years. The other good side is that we now have some very tradable pieces. Maybe there is a Curry for Kobe trade in the works? In all seriousness, Randolph gives us leverage to pick up a Rashard Lewis type of guy. Only time will tell...

I gotta think that this is the best large deal we've taken on though, hands down. This depends on if he continues being good. I don't think you'll see a front court player traded though. In the small, weak East, is there a better 4-5 combo, assuming Shaq stays a declining-cripple? Don't think so.

Randolph gives you a legit 23/10 guy - that is an attitude risk, a notorious non-hard worker, a legal risk and still not fully over microfracture surgery. I wonder how living in the bright lights will help him. He IS from Indiana, so maybe Zeke can get to him and straighten him out. In the East, Zach will be a monster, he shrinks against the West's big boys (Duncan, Amare, KG)

I wanna see Curry and Randolph out there banging at the same time - that's reminiscent of Bump and Thump, woowee!! - but can both of these guys stay healthy??

It's ironic that you refer to them as the jailblazers when your team just traded for the last piece of that jail-friendly squad.

Thomas is a terrible gm.Time will show that Randolph is thug and an over rated ballhog. He is not the same player since the microfracture knee surgery. to quote bulls fans,"thanks Zeke"
