Young Guns on Target and Other Carling Cup Stuff

Arsene Wenger's Young Guns continue to impress in the Carling Cup. A 2-0 victory over Newcastle United saw Arsenal advance. The Arsenal goals came from a Nicklas Bendtner header in the 83rd minute and from a thunderous shot into the upper corner by Denilson in the 89th minute. It was Denilson's first goal while at the club so good for him.
Arsene Wenger sounded clearly upbeat after the game saying; "We were good and intelligent, and I like that. The game was of the same level we played recently with the players who did not feature, and with a style of play with continuity. We have wave after wave of generation of young players. We work with them and when they have come in, they show top quality. We did not play against an average team. We played against Newcastle. We have shown technical maturity and looked strong in every department." Indeed, the Carling Cup has proved to be a valuable competition for Arsenal as they continue to use it to allow their younger players to mature and gain experience.
The other big item out of the Carling Cup was the hat trick scored by Liverpool's Fernando Torres in their 4-2 victory over Reading. He was a goal scoring machine in Spain and it looks like he may be devastating for the Reds, if only manager Rafael Benitez continues to select him for the squad. Sometimes I think Benitez tinkers a bit too much.
The rest of the Cup action looked like this:
