Just how bad is the Sox pen? Well just look at Wednesday's game with the Phillies. Game tied 3-3 in the top of the seventh. Leadoff man gets on. Nobody out and relief pitcher Matt Thornton due up. You have Konerko, Pierzynski, and Iguchi available to pinch hit. But rather than risk bringing in yet another dodgy arm to pitch in the bottom of the seventh, Ozzie lets Thornton have his first major league at bat. He strikes out. They don't get the runner around. Then in the bottom of the seventh, Thornton implodes, giving up a grand slam to Aaron Rowand. And you know the rest...
