Former US soccer player and current president of the LA Galaxy, Alexi Lalas, said that the only reason that the English Premiership is successful, is because of American-style marketing. So I'm guessing they didn't use the same style for the MLS. Lalas also said that the Premiership is "inferior" to the MLS. Uh, Alexi, a good JV team could run right over a couple of MLS squads. Top flight football in England has been there for decades, the soccer craze here is not even close to anything England produces. Lalas said that those who are quick to criticize the MLS haven't seen the league. He also suggested that the MLS was considered "second class" to the EPL, and the British papers were highly unimpressed with the Galaxy's 3-2 win over Real Salt Lake. Maybe because Real hasn't won a game yet!
Alexi even compared England's World Cup success with the US in the past 4 world cups. One quarterfinal appearance for the US, but 2 for England, and Lalas said that it was respectable. Yeah Lalas, what happened last year buddy? I'm assuming that he's only comparing with the last 4 World Cups because there was a period from 1954-1986 where the US never qualified for the World Cup, while England had already won one in 1966.
So to you Alexi Lalas, that's probably the stupidest statements I've ever heard of, and if you think that the MLS is superior to the English Premier League, you've lost your mind. Because the fans and players are passionate in the Premiership. The MLS (outside of Toronto FC), has no fan support at all, and the players are less than stellar.
