You're just gonna love this one, Dirk.

Remember when the Dallas Mavericks went ahead of the Miami Heat 2-0 in the 2006 NBA Finals?
I do.
It was a bleak time for Bernard, an avid hater of all things Mavericks.
But then a funny thing happened -- in fact it was f-g hilarious -- Dwyane Wade shot 73 free throws in the next four games, including 25 in game 5 and 21 in game 6, and the Heat won, going away, 4-2.
The refs basically handed the series over to an inferior Eastern Conference team.
Any time there was a big moment, Wade was fouled ... in fact, any time a Dallas player even looked at Wade in a key situation, a foul was called. It was high comedy.
Every crucial play was a Wade free throw.
It got to the point at which it was almost like watching a rousing episode of the King of Queens ... if that show had been at all humorous.
Wade would just haphazardly fly into the lane, knowing he was getting two free looks and maybe just one if his out-of-control heave would happen to fall in.
It was great.
At the time, Bern here had two prevailing theories -- 1) the NBA desperately needed an Eastern team to win, due to the fact that it wanted to chip away at the lesser conference's JV image; and 2) there was no damn way it was letting Marc Cuban win a title in its league.
Well, throw another wrench into that theory, because the today we learn that the FBI is investigating an NBA referee who bet on games, in which he officiated, and attempting to determine if his actions affected the spreads of said games.
I am hoping and praying that said referee worked that series -- A) it would answer a lot of questions as to why Wade could have handed the 2006 Finals MVP trophy over to the refs, and no one would have thought it odd, and B) because I just want to see Dirk get his heart torn out ... for like the 50th straight time ... even more violently than the day he found out he had AIDS.
Bernirk.
