Yankees Making Their Move

Yankees Making Their Move

On May 29th the Yankees were 14 1/2 games behind the Red Sox with a 21-29 record. Now on August 13th they are 66-51 and 4 games behind the Red Sox. They have been 45-22 in that time span. Roger Clemens 4-5 ironically is the only Yankee starter in their present configuration with a losing record. However since the date of his first start when the team was 29-31 they have been 37-20 since his contribution in the clubhouse may have a lot to do with their success so far in the second half. Yankees handle adversity well so it is no surprise they are this close to the Red Sox after such a horrific start. All of the starters besides Clemens now have winning records including rookie starter Phillip Hughes.

It is crucial they do well against the Orioles in the three game series that ends on Wednesday. They have four games at home against the Tigers, three games on road against the Angels, four road games at Detroit then return for a three game series with Red Sox. Red Sox during the same time span have six games against the Rays, three games against the Angels and four games against White Sox then the three game series with the Yankees. So the schedule favors the Red Sox and the Red Sox would like to be further ahead of Yankees by the time they meet again so a sweep by Yankees wouldn't leave the Yankees in first place.

The Yankees were my pick to winning the division this year until around the start of July. The reason why I was so nervous was because they are still hanging around even though the Red Sox had the best W% in the MLB for a long long time. So, I took that into consideration. And, all of the sudden, the Red Sox started going down, and the Yankees fired up. Kinda like the Brewers/Cubs situation, except the Sox and Yankees are having better seasons than the Brewers and Cubs. It is kinda like last year. The Red Sox had the lead, and the Yankees had injuries in the beginning. If the Yankees pull this off, I will tip my cap to them because with Chien Ming Wang, Mike Mussina, and Hideki Matsui injured, and hardly any help from Jason Giambi, and no bullpen whatsoever except for Mariano and maybe Brian Bruney...MAYBE, the Yankees just keep fighting. AROD, Posada, and Jeter have been the key to keeping the will of the Yankees making the playoffs. Jeter said that they could still win the division right before the All Star Break, and boy, did he mean it. I feel like I'm watching Major League every single day. Hideki, Cano, have very slowly done a lot for the team, and so has Damon in his own way. People said that Clemens didn't have anything else left in after his FIRST loss, which was his 2nd start, I believe. Boy, were they dead wrong. Now, they've REALLY got me worried. They could probably sweep the Red Sox and take over the division soon, and I'm not going to be pleased with that. I'm going to have to look back at the '04 motto, and "Keep the Faith" for US to keep the lead, while many Yankee fans are "KEEPING THE FAITH" to stay alive and win the division for the 12th straight season...

Welome back Insan. I haven't seen YOU type anything in the last 1 1/2 days. NOW, the first thing you do is say "Welcome back Niteowl" to a "Yankees Coming Back" article... funny.

You can usually get them ahead of time...and they rarely sell out weekday games... Even playoff tickets dont sell out for about a day...via internet preorder

Well, for you to get Phillies playoff tickets, the Phillies would have to make the playoffs. And they better not. They better not.

Beginning with that home stand against the Tigers, the Yankees can really make a statement to the rest of the league. Thats a huge stretch with 8 games against the team that knocked you out of the playoffs last year, and 3 each with two of your most hated rivals as you try to put yourself back into playoff contention.

I knew this would happen. I'm okay with it. Either way, both the Red Sox and Yankees are getting in the playoffs, which I'm kind of excited about. Keep in mind, the Yankees still have tough teams ahead of them (if you still consider the Tigers tough). Could the DRays have come to Boston at a better time?

As usual...i will say, 2 teams from the AL East will not make the playoffs... Would you take the yankees/sox or the field (Twins, Tigers, Indians, Mariners)

I never count the Yankees out unless they are 15 games out in the middle of August. It will be interesting to see how the Red Sox handle the Yankees being this close. Hard to believe A-Rod has more homers (39) than David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez combined (38).

NL East is really up for grabs with the closest three team race. I just don't have a good feeling about the Braves and look for Phillies to finish first or second.
