SI.com posted a story earlier today stating that the Dolan family is interested in purchasing the New York Yankees from George Steinbrenner. The Dolan family currently own the New York Rangers and the New York Knicks.
The report surmises that Steinbrenner may be on the verge of selling his beloved Yankees because he is in falling health and wants to get his estate in order before his death. Now, it has been reported in the past, mostly on the radio station WFAN in New Yok that Steinbrenner's health was poor and was getting worse as the days go by. It is true that prior to this year, the team was suppose to be led by Steinbrenner's son-in-law after George's death. However, after a DUI charge and a divorce filing by Steinbrenner's daughter, it looks as though the son-in-law is out of the picture.
What to make of the Dolans? Well, if you are a Rangers or Knicks fan, you know the pain that this family has inflicted upon you over the past decade! Really, non-Yankees are in celebration mode over this news. Sure, the Yanks may not become as bad as they were when CBS owned them, but they are not going to be very good long term under the Dolans.
Hence, what a terrible April it has been for the Yankees may now turn into the worse April in franchise history.
