Yankees, Go Home

It's official: the 2006 New York Yankees' season is over. With an 8-3 win Saturday night, the Detroit Tigers have eliminated New York from the playoffs, facing surprisingly little resistance in the process. Yanks starter Jaret Wright would not even last three innings, as homers from Magglio Ordonez and Craig Monroe chased him from the game before the vaunted New York lineup could even supply him any support. Meanwhile, Tigers P Jeremy Bonderman was making short work of the powerful Yankees, maintaining a perfect game against them through five innings. And by the time the smoke cleared on a 3-run fifth inning for the Tigers, the score was 7-0 in Detroit's favor -- making the game, for all intents and purposes, over.

After cruising to the victory, Tigers players took the opportunity to thank their fans by spraying them with celebratory champagne; the Yankees haven't tasted such champagne since they beat Minnesota in the 2004 ALDS. The Tigers will move on to face the Oakland Athletics in the ALCS, starting on Tuesday.

Yhe Yankees might have the best "players" but they clearly are not the BEST TEAM.

Spending $200 only ensures that you will never win because there are too many "egos" and "I's" in the clubhouse. They will never win again as long as Steinbrenner has anything to say about what happens.

NEVER!

Oops ^^^ $200,000,000.

$200 and they might actually have a chance. I'll play 3rd for $15 a game because let's face it - "Small-Rod" is the most over-rated player EVER. Argue all you want about how he is the best player ever - or even anywhere near that designation...if you actually believe that, then you clearly don't understand baseball.

GO TIGERS!!!

Somehow, the reason they lost this series is clearly A-Rod... PLEASE trade him... there's 31 other teams that would GLADLY take him off yer hands....

"We still are the best team. The best team doesn't always win." -- Johnny Damon I suppose that's what the Cards were saying in '04 too, huh Johnny? Why do you think he could win a WS with the Sox and not the Yanks? Amusing, isn't it? So amusing it almost overwhelms his incredible arrogance. And people wonder why I never liked him, even when he was in Boston. Hear idiot quotes like this, and reflect.

You know the Christmas song "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year"? There should be a song about the Yankees season ending called "The Second Most Wonderful Time of the Year."

I am a Yankee FAN, rather than all of you ANTI fans. Give it up, root for your own team if you have one and don't worry about the Yankees. As far as the Yankees NEVER winning again, many fools have said that over the last thirty years. Fact is though, George has brought 6 WS championships to the NYY. I do agree you need to have more role players and better pitching. Don't worry though, Yankees will make some moves and be back next year. Hopefully, we will move a few players like e-5, mussina, sheff, bernie, etc.

PLEASE sign up as Annonymous #1... see the two N's? Just spell it slightly different. I don't care that the Yankees lost, I'm mad the CAPTAIN didn't get these guys going... being around a WINNER like Jeter should be able to make them all play better than the multiple ALL-Stars they are...

Yes, Jeter should have got them going. More importantly, I don't understand why Torre didn't have them come out with a little more fire.

ManWAGON- actually, the yankees will be under $200MM when they get rid of e-5. and sorry, there are very few teams that will take him on, i think you are a little confused. no, he is not the only reason they lost, of course not. he does need to go though as well as sheffield, mussina, bernie, johnson....that would lower the payroll big time with very little difference in their record.

They'll eat some of A-Rod's contract, that'll cost them... they'll go out and try to sign some actual "Pitchers" for above market valus, they'll end up trading for ManRam or someone of the like... and don't forget, Roberto Abreu gets paid handsomely...

we'll see. i think you will be surprised this offseason. might be the end of the torre era. yes, the yankees will have to eat some of his contract because e-5 is overpaid. not his fault, but he is and don't forget texas has been paying the yankees as well. so, now some other team will have the yankees and the rangers paying part of his salary. haha.

Giambi was all banged up going into this series. NO, can't blame it all on a-hole, but i would say his stint in NY is over. moving him will be the first priority this offseason. they will not resign sheff, mussina, bernie...

then don't post here #3

but, who do you think was the most pathetic player on the Yankees squad?

A-Rod and Randy Johnson for me, same with Giambi, Sheffield and Cano.

they are A-List players who played like amateurs. If they continue like that, it will be a very, very long time before another World Series comes to the NY.

It is no wander that the yanks are beat so early in the play-off. The royals were the team that all expected to beat and in the season the royols ended up taking series both from the tiger and the As. The yankees on the other hand are the team to beat. They are the team to rise to the occasion to. There is no better feeling than being the underdog, playing above your abilities and taking a serieis from the best and highest payed team in baseball. As long as the yankees continue to buy themselves into being a giant bulls-eye they are going to continue to face the unexpected and be eliminated before they even get to the world series. Their addiction to the supperstar will continue to be their downfall in the playoffs for years to come.
