Yancey Thigpen (Yancey Dirk Thigpen) was born on August 15, 1969 in Tarboro, North Carolina. After going to high school at Southwest Edgecombe (Pinetops, NC), Thigpen attended Winston Salem State University. Thigpen made his professional debut in the NFL in 1991 with the San Diego Chargers. He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans, Tennessee Oilers and San Diego Chargers over the course of his 10 year career.

Most people believe that 1997 was Yancey Thigpen's best year, as he hauled in 79 receptions, had 1398 receiving yards and caught 7 TD passes.
