Forgive me if this article borders on gloating. But I'm going to test that fine line. For the past couple of years, I've had to sit back and watch A-Rod catch more crap than 30 sanitation trucks. He caught it left, right, forward, backward and sideways from all angles of the media. He even caught crap from Jason Giambi in Sports Illustrated, who as we know has to so much right to be talking with his fine use of the needle and all. I've had to sit and listen to numerous Yankee fans calling up WFAN Radio trying to come up with the best possible way to trade A-Rod at the trade deadline. He was put under the biggest microscope and the biggest lens the moment he dawned a Yankees uniform. I would not be so far off to say that there were some Yankee fans that looked forward to him and even enjoyed him struggling just so they can boo and pile on the hate just a little deeper.
Well, forgive me but I'm going to enjoy the man who's off to the fastest start to begin a season and as far as career stats go one of the fastest starts ever. I'm going to sit back, grab a Smirnoff Ice and toast to the man who has brought dead silence to his critics in the New York media and abroad. The man who will be 16 HRs away from joining the 500 HR club before even turning 32 years of age and who will be in the HR record picture before you can say "Thank God Sanjaya is gone!!!!"
But I'm guess I'm giving too much love for the Two-time MVP, two time Gold Glove Winner and Silver Slugger Award winner, right?
Too bad.
I'm not naive enough to believe that there wont be any more Hatorade towards A-Rod once he does hit a rocky road. Let's be honest: They're waiting in the wings itching at the next chance to call him an expletive deleted.
Right now, they'll just have to take a number and wait on line because A-Rod requires a fire hydrant right now to contain his momentum. He's playing with a vengeance and a chip on his shoulder despite putting together an unbelieveable body of work in his 13 years.
A-Rod has been made to be the equivalent of Sanjaya too long in Yankee Nation.
Little did they know he's been Melinda Doolittle all along.
