Anyone who knows me knows I'm a big fan of the following things: Free Speech, Radio, and food.
Since I just ate dinner, we'll leave food out of this. All day long we have been bombarded with news about Don Imus negotiating a deal with CBS radio to get paid and be able to get back to work. Obviously I'm all for this as I don't think he should have been fired in the first place. I never knew Nappy was a slur ( Carlos Mencia, a guy I'm none fond of, explained it best...saying that nappy refers to hair that looks like the person just woke up, as in, FROM A NAP.)
But here's what really gets me: One of the players is suing Imus. Yup. read that again. One of the players from the Rutgers Women's Basketball team is suing The Corpse Formerly Known as Don Imus.
Kia Vaughn (I DARE anyone to pick her out of a lineup) is suing alleging slander and defamation. Shockingly there is no dollar amount listed in the suit according to MSNBC (read: File suit expecting a settlement). Then again, she doesn't really need the money, what with that WNBA money comming soon. Ugh.
Her attorney, who gives all lawyers a good name, claimed “This is about Kia Vaughn’s good name. She would do anything to return to her life as a student and respected basketball player — a more simple life before Imus opened his mouth on April 4.”
She wants a more simple life huh? She just wants to return to being a student and a basketball player? Well certainly the best way to do that is to file a lawsuit ensuring more media coverage.
Oh ya, Vaughn also went on Oprah....certainly a way to return to normal student life.
Man I hope Imus doesn't settle this case.
Not for nothing, but shouldn't Imus be getting some compensation from Vaughn and/or Rutgers Womens basketball? All this free advertising for the team and herself individually......
I respect women's athletics. In college I had the pleasure of covering a Big Ten Women's Volleyball team and found it one of the most interesting and rewarding experiences of my life. That being said, this suit is just pathetic and makes the player look bad.
Rutgers basketball player suing Imus [MSNBC] Like what you read? This post is cross-published from We Suck at Sports.
