World Series Breakdown

Today is the day that baseball fans have been waiting for: The World Series.
I haven’t cared in a few years. I did like that the Cardinals won shortly after Molly’s grandmother (a HUGE fan) passed away. I was happy to see the Red Sox break a curse. But this year is intriguing.
Now, it may not be the “sexiest” match up. It isn’t two long time rivals, or two teams fighting a curse or going against all odds. But it is a World Series that is going to have a lot of story lines. I am going to break it down.
Story Lines:
1) Todd Helton
- This guy is the epitome of a team player. He has had the chance to go to other places, the chances to leave the black hole that has been Colorado. He is one of the top 5 players in the game but he is off the radar. I want them to “Win this one for Todd”
2) Rockies Pitching
- The Rockies Staff was terrible in the first half, posting an ERA far higher then the league average, but then they broke out after the All-Star break and posted the lowest ERA after the half. - Their bullpen has allowed ZERO runs in the post-season.
3) Regular season series
- The Red Sox got “Rock”ed (*clever) at Fenway this year. The Rockies scored 6 runs off of both Beckett and Schilling. Wakefield was the only pitcher to beat them, and he is not on the World Series roster due to injury.
4) Big Bats
- The Red Sox have the big names, the big bats and the big chance. But don’t count the Rockies out. They have 5 guys with over 90 RBIs on the season (compared to Boston’s 2) and an Average of .280 (compared to Boston’s .279). And who has more Home Runs? That would be the Rockies who had 171 on the season to the Red Sox 166.
I know this sounds a little Rockies-centric, as it should. I really believe that the Red Sox are so ready to go that they may not be looking at the Rockies as a good team. I know it is the World Series, but the Rockies are under the Radar and it is just where they want to be. It is actually so closely matched that I am going to watch as much as I can (I have prior engagements), but will be following very closely. Why? Because the Rockies are for real.
"We're not supposed to win a game."
- Todd Helton.
"They've got the household names. We're the anonymous guys. We're the underdogs."
- Garrett Atkins
Rockies in 6.
