Woody Bruder (Woodruff Harlan Bruder) was born on February 5, 1901 in Houston, Texas. After going to high school at Heights (Houston, TX), Bruder attended the University of Pittsburgh and West Virginia University. Bruder made his professional debut in the NFL in 1925 with the Frankford Yellow Jackets. He played for the Frankford Yellow Jackets for his entire 2 year career.
