Wood Questionable For Sunday

Chicago Cubs SP Kerry Wood suffered from some shoulder stiffness following his start on Tuesday and will not pitch on Sunday as planned. "Right now, [Sunday's starter] is to be determined," manager Dusty Baker said. "We're going to see how he feels after two outings. He was a little stiff [Tuesday]. We'll see if he's going to feel good enough to do it on Sunday or if he needs to skip a turn."

Wood needs to be a closer. The Cubs could use a good closer too. Maybe he could close for a year, regain his arm strength, and then try the starting rotation again . . .

I'm pretty sure that at this point, turning Wood into a closer won't do him any good. He can't get on the mound for more than two starts. Splitting his work into smaller, more frequent incriments won't do him any good.
