Team History

Edit History

The team began playing in 1962 as the Appleton Foxes. That name stayed until 1994, with the exception of a few years (1963-66) when they were known as the Fox Cities Foxes. The team was renamed the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers for the 1995 season after moving from its original home, Goodland Field in Appleton (built in 1940), to the new Fox Cities Stadium in nearby Grand Chute.

The team has been affiliated with the Mariners since 1993. Previous affiliations have been with the Baltimore Orioles (1962-65), the Chicago White Sox (1966-86), and the Kansas City Royals (1987-92).

The franchise's attendance record of 233,797 was set in 1996.

The most famous baseball players who played for the franchise is Alex Rodriguez. Rodriguez played for the team for part of the 1994 season, until he was promoted to the major leagues. David Ortiz the famed clutch home run hitter of the Boston Red Sox also has played for the Timber Rattlers in the 1996 season and let them in hits that season. Ortiz was known as David Arias when he played for the Timber Rattlers.
