Winter Meetings Rumblings

Now that the Winter Meetings are here the question remains: Will Johan Santana get traded? Will most people around baseball see a deal happening one way or the other because even the lesser offers of the Yankees and Red Sox are better than two draft picks, only one of which is guaranteed? Both the Yankees and Red Sox, who originally balked at giving up their second best prospect, Phil Hughes in the Yankees case and Jacoby Ellsbury in the Red Sox's, are now willing to put them in their respoective deals. However, Ian Kennedy and Jon Lester would need to be removed from their respoective deals. The Yankees set a deadline for the end of the day today, but nobody truly believes them considering they said the same with trades involve in Chuck Knoblauch and Roger Clemens and did the same this off-season by signing A-Rod. I could very easily see the Yankees approaching the Twins tomorrow about enticing their offer, thats if a deal doesn't get done today.

Around the Majors: -The Arizona Diamondbacks shipped Carlos Quentin to the Chicago White Sox in return for power hitting prospect, Chris Carter. I like this deal for both sides, especially the White Sox because they needed to fill some of their holes in the outfield. Plus, Arizona didn't do too bad considering Quentin was the odd man out in 2008 and wouldn't recieve adaquete playing time to boost his value.

-Even though the Marlins' owners nixed the Miguel Cabrera deal, I wouldn't be suprised to see a deal get done sometime in the near future.

-The Red Sox expressed interest in both Dan Haren and Ben Sheets. Sheets is interesting because of his injury issues, but that would definitely lower his value. Erik Bedard's name has also been tossed around, even though I doubt Baltimore Orioles owner, Peter Angelos, would let him be dealt. He does have a nack for blocking deals. I also wonder whether the Red Sox will revisit Rich Harden considering they expressed interest in him in the past.

-Apparently, Andruw Jones recieved a two-year offer from the Los Angeles Dodgers at 32M. I would expect something closer to 38M if this were to happen. Boras is seeking a Torii Hunter-like deal at 5 years, 90M. I don't see this happening at all. Boras should seriously consider taking a one-year offer from a team and boost his value back to where it was a year ago.

Does Andruw Jones really need Scott Boras around to screw up his contract negotiation?

A-Hole didn't seem to need him. Neither did Kenny Rogers who fired him outright.

Boras "loses" one negotiation (and his client still gets $300 mill out of it), and all of a sudden he sucks? This guy has owned the owners for like a decade now.

to a division opponent...i think not...

He'd have to be shipped out west...or the mets could think about it...

Angelos just annoys me...Baltimore is a great fanbase and its ashame to not let them get in the mix...they could at least be better than the jays...

The Mets don't have anybody that they could trade for a front-line starter. Fernando Martinez is not available, Carlos Gomez isn't enough to get anybody by himself, and Mike Pelfrey and Phillip Humber don't make great trade prospects.

A year from now, Mets fans will be asking, "Lastings who?" Attitude wise, the exact opposite of Milledge, Willie Randolph just loves the kid, and he's got game. You heard it here first, Gomez can play.

Oh yeah, Gomez > Milledge. He was brought up early in 2007 (due to injuries to Alou, Green, and Endy Chavez), but he showed flashes of brilliance.

Well i think being from Canada most teams should be better then the jays and the fanbase in baltimore is unbeleivable not to mention they have an outstanding ball park. Angelos shocked me a couple of years ago when he got lopez, sosa and palmerio all over the hill former somethings, it was upsetting to say the least that a manager would take that route. Maybe get a guy like Ellsbury to play center him and markakis would be great together but that could be a stretch of the imagination.

Is Andruw's deal 32 million dollars or donuts?
