The big Blue Bomber defense was on display this afternoon in Toronto. Not only did they keep the Ricky Williams running show in check, but they pounded the offensive line creating 4 sacks and 4 turnovers. Final score Winnipeg Blue Bombers 24 - Toronto Argonauts 17.

Neither Toronto, nor Winnipeg were able to do much on their first possessions.

On Toronto's second possession, the Argos moved the ball well down the field. Capped by a 13-yard pass from QB Spergon Wynn to WR Andre Talbot for an Argo touchdown.

The Winnipeg offense finally got into gear themselves, moving the ball down the field. But was stopped at the Toronto 31. Winnipeg settled for a 38-yard field goal from the foot of K Troy Westwood.

The next two Toronto possessions sputtered around a five-and-out possession of Winnipeg.

The following Winnipeg possession started on their own 2-yard line. They only managed a three-and-out.

Toronto followed with their own three-and-out.

Winnipeg only managed two plays before the end of the quarter. Toronto 7 - Winnipeg 3.

Winnipeg continued down the field in the second quarter. Finally posting a Westwood 42-yard field goal. Westwood attempted another field goal, a bit later, from 38 yards, but hit the right upright.

The Argos moved the ball well, but chose to hand the ball off to Williams on a third-and-one from their own 34, instead of punting, who was promptly stuffed by the Bomber defense.

Winnipeg took over on downs at the Toronto 34. QB Kevin Glenn made one pass, an 11-yard pass to RB Charles Roberts. Then Roberts ran 23 yards for a Bomber touchdown. This ended the scoring in the second quarter. Winnipeg 13 - Toronto 7.

The third quarter was pretty much a defensive showcase, as neither team could do much.

Except for one play from Toronto. With the ball sitting on the Toronto 35, Wynn unloaded a huge bomb to WR R.J. Soward for a 75-yard touchdown play. This was the only scoring of the third quarter, Toronto 14 - Winnipeg 13.

Late in the third quarter, Winnipeg got the ball moving for a long drive that continued into the fourth quarter. The drive ended with a 19-yard field goal. Winnipeg 16 - Toronto 14.

Toronto had another three-and-out against the tough Bomber defense.

Winnipeg took over on the Toronto 52. Winnipeg used the great field position to score a touchdown. Capped by a 15-yard pass from Glenn to SB Milt Stegall. Winnipeg 23 - Toronto 14.

Toronto K Noel Prefontaine was able to make a 30-yard field goal half way through the fourth quarter.

Yeah, it was me. I thought he was actually going to show up and play some ball. Instead, he is just collecting a pay check. This is not the first time I guessed wrong on how an athlete will perform. Won't be the last either.
