Winning at Home: Not a Problem in the AFC

Remember home field advantage? Well it seems to be a challenging thing for teams in the NFC, but in the superior AFC......

The AFC East has one good team that happens to be 14-0, and then a pile of cow crap below. New England is 7-0 at home and 7-0 on the road. The Bills at 7-7, have a 4-3 home record, but a 2-5 road record destroyed their playoff chances. The Jets.....2-5 at home....1-6 away from Giants Stadium. As for the Dolphins, they are 1-6 at home, and a tremendous 0-7 on the road. Add that up, and the AFC East is 14-14 at home (mainly because of the other 3 teams suckiness), and an atrocious 14-17 away.

The AFC South is by far the best division in football. No team is under .500, and if the Texans were in the NFC, a trip to the playoffs is much more likely. The Colts are 5-1 at home and 7-1 on the road. The Jaguars are split at 5-2 at home and on the road. The Titans are split 4-3 both home and road. And even the last place Texans at 7-7, a very good 5-2 record at home, but just 2-5 away from Reliant Stadium. A division in which no team will finish below .500 at home. Add that up, the AFC South has a record of 19-8 at home, and a respectable 18-13 away.

The AFC North is a division in which the Steelers and Ravens Bengals Browns are the top teams. Pittsburgh's loss to Jacksonville dropped them to 7-1 at home, but the Steelers are just 2-4 away from Heinz Field. Cleveland is 9-5 as well, 6-1 at home, but 3-4 on the road. Then the duds in the Bengals, a 4-3 home record, but a 1-6 road record, and the Ravens, 3-4 at home, and a pathetic 1-6 away. So the AFC North has a record of 21-11 at home, but a pathetic 7-20 on the road.

Finally, the awful AFC West. That includes the champion Chargers, a 6-1 record at home, but 3-4 away. The Chiefs had their worst home stand ever with a 2-6 home record, and a 2-4 road record. The Raiders are 2-5 home and away, while the Broncos are 4-3 at home, and 2-5 away. A poor record for the AFC West, in which the home record is 14-15, while the road is an even worse 7-18 away.

Final totals (AFC):

Home: 68-48 (.586)

Away: 46-68 (.396)

Overall:

114-116 (.495)

Final Totals (NFC):

Home: 58-52 (.527)

Away: 53-59 (.473)

Overall: 111-111 (.500)

Not sure if this is right, everyone has played 14 games. Help me out here.

Good article, and great points. San Diego and Pittsburgh are two teams that define exactly what your saying. These two teams are just totally different when they are playing at home. Until the Steelers loss to Jags last week, they were undefeated at home, while the Chargers have a nice 6-1 record at home themselves.

Notice that the teams in the AFC which is the better conference do what they are supposed to and win home games. I wonder what the conferences records are defending thier home turf against eachother.
