Winners in Washington?

There are many things that I believe that the Washington Redskins will do better this year. Such as THROWING THE BALL, the running game will improve if Portis does not get hurt in a pre-season game, and the offensive line. First on throwing the football, Campbell has brought a new and bright light to the Redskins QB arsenal.

Campbell showed what he could do last season and I personally have not seen that kind of performance from a QB since Mark Rypien. Campbell has a lot of potential to become a seasoned QB if he has an opportunity. Campbell from what I understand is starting this season, good move Joe Gibbs, but there is still something that makes me wonder about the team this season. My wonder is will the offensive line give Campbell enough time to throw the football.

My opinion analyzing last season is that the line needs a little tweaking. In the NFL defensive lines are getting rougher and tighter and the offensive lines seem not to be improving to terribly much anywhere. I  am sure some of y’all out there have examples of this and feel free to let me know, I just couldn’t think of one at the moment, call it a brain fart. Lastly, the running game, with Clinton Portis, this man is always a phenomenal player but I think with all the players knowing and understanding the strategies that were put in place last year Portis will explode cause he will have bigger holes to run through, courtesy of your Washington Redskins offensive line and offensive coordinator.

I am under the impression that the Nationals or Capitals have a better chance of winning before the Redskins. In the NFL in this day and age you need draft picks. Lots and lots of them. And Daniel Snyder likes to trade them away for aging vetrans. So while they may be a little better they will not be making any huge strides until the owner stops interfering with the team.

If the 'Skins are going to have even the slightest chance of not sucking this year, it's gonna have to start with the defense. Having the seventh-worst 3rd-down defense in the league last season isn't going to cut it. If the Redskins can fix their defensive game, then I think that the rest of the team will fall into place, and only then will the team be a worthy adversary in the NFL.

Nice stat, one that holds quite true. Washington in recent years has had a really good defense, which at least made the tema competitive, but last year it just wasn't there. Get the defense right, keep grooming Campbell at QB and feed Portis and Ladell Betts the ball. It might not work this coming season, but if done right (fat chance, Snyder), the seeds can be planted for future success.

Redskins may very well finish second in the NFC East. That will be because both the Cowboys and Giants will have awful seasons. The Skins are NOT a contender for a playoff spot in the NFC.

Portis is not a phenomenal player. He is a slightly above-average running back.

Agreed. Portis was a product of the system in Denver.

One thing's for sure, if I were a wideout in the NFC East, I'd be careful going down the middle of the field when I play the Redskins. Sean Taylor and LaRon Landry are bound to wreak havoc back there. Should be Jacked-Up regulars.

First of all ... let's hold off on calling Jason Campbell the next Mark Rypien. Rypien won us a Super Bowl; Campbell hasn't played a full season yet. But, the experience he got last year will help him tremendously, he has a nice arm, and most importantly, he's mobile. Mark Brunell was a statue in the pocket, and with an offensive line as suspect as ours, I want a mobile quarterback.

As I mentioned above, sure up the defense. Landry was a solid draft pick, but I think we need linebacker help. As for the running game? Split time between Portis and Ladell Betts. Portis is now injury-prone and even when he's healthy, he's not as successful as he was in Denver. So splitting RB time does two things: 1) it lessens Portis' chances of getting hurt, and 2) if gives Betts, who shined in Portis' absence last year, more touches and chances to move the offense.

I disagree with Christof; if everything falls right, the Redskins can be playoff contenders. The NFC will be weak again, which means anything from 7-9 to 9-7 could get you playoff-bound. But things need to fall just right, and I don't see that quite yet.

Play out the season, learn how to use the draft, then maybe in another year or two.

I just got another idea!

Wait until this season - and Mike Vick's career - is over, and then draft him. It'll remind him how badly he messed up.

Well, if Cincinatti doesn't get to him first.  ; )

Sorry, I just really felt like railing on Michael Vick for whatever reason today. Go about your business.

I was not trying to say that Campbell will be the next Rypien. I don't believe in saying the next any thing because everyone is their own player. If anything I just think that what little Campbell got to play last season was comparable and or better than Brunell's season.
