Born on June 20, 1874 in Chester, West Virginia, Win Mercer (George Barclay Mercer) played for the Washington Senators, New York Giants and Detroit Tigers over the course of his 9 year career. Mercer broke into the bigs on April 21, 1894 with the Washington Senators, and put up a 3.85 ERA in 339.1 innings pitched in 1894, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Win Mercer's best season was 1897, when he posted a 3.18 ERA, won 21 games and struck out 91 batters.
