Born on November 10, 1873 in Atlanta, Georgia, Willie McGill (William Vaness McGill) played for the Cleveland Infants, St. Louis Browns, Cincinnati Porkers, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Colts and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 7 year career. McGill broke into the bigs on May 8, 1890 with the Cleveland Infants, and put up a 4.12 ERA in 183.2 innings pitched in 1890, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Willie McGill's best season was 1891, when he posted a 3.35 ERA, won 21 games and struck out 173 batters.
