Born on June 19, 1908 in Elmira, New York, Bill Swift (William Vincent Swift) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Braves, Brooklyn Dodgers and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 11 year career. Swift broke into the bigs on April 12, 1932 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 3.61 ERA in 214.1 innings pitched in 1932, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Bill Swift's best season was 1935, when he posted a 2.70 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 74 batters.
