Born on March 12, 1892 in Iowa Hill, California, Bill James (William Lawrence James) played for the Boston Braves for his entire 4 year career. James broke into the bigs on April 17, 1913 with the Boston Braves, and put up a 2.79 ERA in 135.2 innings pitched in 1913, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Bill James's best season was 1914, when he posted a 1.90 ERA, won 26 games and struck out 156 batters.
