Will the Revs Finally Get Some Silverware?

Will the New England Revolution finally get their hands on some silverware?  The Revs will play in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final on October 3 against FC Dallas.  The Revs one of the original MLS teams have never won any of the major domestic trophies, no MLS Cups, no U.S. Open Cups and no Supporters' Shields.  The Revs have been bridesmaids for each of those trophies before, 3 times in total for the MLS Cup.  So perhaps it is time for the Revs to make that breakthrough and finally win a major trophy.

The Revs do face a challenge in that the Cup Final will be played at Pizza Hut Park, the home field of their opponent, FC Dallas.  Certainly not the ideal place for the Revs to be playing for the Cup.  The Revs reached the Final by beating the Carolina RailHawks from the USL First Division.  That match was extremely physical and saw a total of 3 sending offs and eight cautions.  The RailHawks took the lead in the 6th minute and it took until first half stoppage time for the Revs to find the equalizer through a diving header by Jeff Larentowicz.  The winner for the Revs came in extra time when Pat Noonan's goal in the 4th minute of extra time saw New England through to the Final.

FC Dallas reached the Final by defeating USL First Division side Seattle Sounders.  The match ended with a 2-1 scoreline in favor of the Hoops with tallies from Carlos Ruiz and a penalty from Abe Thompson.  The Sounders got a goal back from Leighton O’Brien, but the clock would eventually run out thereby seeing Dallas through.  The interesting thing about this match is that all three goals came in extra time.

So the New England Revolution have another opportunity to win some silverware.  Facing one of MLS's better teams in FC Dallas will not make it an easy task.  The Final as I stated will take place on October 3 and will be broadcast on Fox Soccer Channel.

I think that FC Dallas will pick up the trophy. The Revolution defense has been leaking goals as of late, which plays right inot Toja & Ruiz's hands.

The names of the stadiums in MLS suck. There's nothing intimidating about the name "Pizza Hut Park." It sounds like a place where pizza goes to play.

It's all about the sponsorship money, not only in MLS but elsewhere.

I know, but it still sounds so silly.
