Will Alex Rodriguez Opt out?

19
Vote

by Donnie35

A-Rod or Mr.Clutch has 10 days after the World Series to decide whether he will opt out or not. If I were A-Rod I think I would opt out. I don't think the Yankees will be able to win a championship with him on that team. Anyway say he does opt out, these are the places that I see him playing.

Not in any order

1. Chicago Cubs- current third basemen Aramis Ramirez but Arod will play shortstop

2. Philadelphia Phillies-Are looking for a full time 3rd basemen instead of the Trio of Dobbs, Nunez, and Helms. With the lack of availabilty for pitching the Phils can use a lot of their money on A-Rod.

3. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim-They need that other power bat as they showed in the series against the Red Sox.

4. Boston Red Sox? Long shot but they are losing Mike Lowell and they are in the same division with the Yankees so anything is possible.

Other than those teams I can't see him playing anywhere else really.

I expect the Angels and Cubs to be the front runners if this were to happen but for now he is still a Yankee and could very well stay that way.

The answer is yes...because he stands to make much more if he does...

1) - Possibly

2) Hahaha...hahaha...please

3) More likely

4) Lowell will probably cost them half of A-Rod...but a Ortiz-A-Rod-Ramirez 3-4-5 seems decent ; - )

Howard's not arbitration eligible until '08, and it's limited then. No reason for the Phils to sign him now. Wait til after next season, after he hits .240 with 35 HR and 225 K's. Then they can low ball him for two years til free agency and let him walk.

let him walk?!?! They low balled him this year...each year you let him wait, you piss him off a little bit more...Utley wasn't eligible until this year (he signed a contract extension last year)...Howard will be in that situation this year and could earn a more respectable 5 or 6 million...save more money when he does become eligible and earns a hefty 10 mil a year

Lowell is not leaving Boston, and wherever ARod goes it will be as a shortstop. There's your answer.

All the more reason for boston to sign both...

Pedroia-Youkilis-Ortiz-A-Rod-Ramirez-Lowell...Jesus...

I do agree, A-Rod will be an SS wherever he signs...unless he resigns...

However, I'm not so sure boston resigns Lowell...Youkilis is 3rd Baseman (and really hits like one too)...I know boston isn't always money conscious, but they might be here...especially if they want to unload Drew and perhaps Manny (with 1 yr left)...

I could see the cubs offering him a contract I know its highly unlikely but consider this. The phillies if they want to spend money can sign A-Rod to a big deal. Citizens Bank Park can get him a ton of homeruns so he can bury the All Time Home Run Record and he joins the top 3 best offense in the league. Picture Rollins, Utley, A-Rod, Howard as your first 4 batters that is 25 homerun plus from each of them. I just think A-Rod would maybe consider it if the opportunity arrives.

A pay cut to sign with the Phils?

You forget, Ryan Howard and Cole Hamels will get raises (Howard will get arbitration avoidance contract...)...and, if the Phils did do it, they wouldn't resign Rowand...

Oh and Pat Burrell is in the final year of his deal...earning 14 mil...

Well I mean it depends on the amount of money he can get each year. Like say they don't resign Rowand which I don't think they will anyways. Bourn is starting in center, Vic will be in right , and Burrell won't be a Phillie after next year. Then it all depends on if they can be smart with their money management to all the players.

ok...where's the money coming from...

Who's off the books this year...lieber, Garcia, Rowand...plus Howard and Hamels need more money...not to mention role player raises...

Plus this team needs pitching...

Why A-Rod...look at the 3b splits for the phils...they get enough production from Chase Utley to cover their 3rd base hole and then some...they already have the league's best offense...time to get some pitching

The Yankees SHOULD get him. I don't know why no one believes that A-Rod will stay where he is. His reputation isn't gonna change if he moves to a different team.

I think that A-Rod will stay. Did you not see his face and eyes at the post-game last night? He presses for a reason: I think he wants to be there and feels like he is disappointing fans. After 2 MVP seasons, I think he is growing more comfortable. I think he likes being in a place where you HAVE to win, no matter how sensitive he may be. I was glad that after his strikeouts in the ALDS, the fans didn't get all over him. The place was electric whenever he stepped up to the plate, let alone when he got the hit and the home run. No where else will he get the chance to consistently win, and, quite frankly, I don't see anyone offering him more then New York anyway. Quick question: If he retired today, what ballcap would Rodriguez where into the Hall? The answer is not clear cut, and he is not a stupid man. He cares about his legacy, thats what screws him up. He knows there is a difference between being one of the best players ever and wearing a Cubs or Angels uniform and being one of the best players ever wearing Pinstripes. I love the Yankees and certainly hope he comes back (whether that be not opting-out or opting-out and negotiate a new deal with NY)

Just mark it down: I am going to laugh at every single one of you A-Rod despising Yankee fans the moment he cashes in his option AND signs an extension!!! You stupid bastards!

Just because Boras will have him on the market doesn't mean there's more than one potential suitor in the picture!!! He's gonna use the Yankees against themselves@!!! Congrats Yankees - You're the next Tom Hicks!!! Come on down and play "Pay your Price!"

Go Boras, get 'em!!! Suckers...

Today is Christmas Day in the Stiles household. The Yankees season ending is way effin' better than whatever Santa leaves under the tree.

There's no other explanation for him talking like a total horse's ass.

  • 1) There is no option in ARod's contract. Either he opts out, or plays it out.
  • ) If he opts out, the Yankees are out. The Rangers are on the hook for $57 million of the remaining $81 million of his deal. At 24 million for the next three years, ARod is a bargain. Any more than that, it's a ripoff, and no one knows that better than Boss George.
Bye bye, ARod. Thanks for nothing.

he will opt out! Then he will sign a new 8 year deal at more money! (essentially the last 3 of remaining contract + 5 more years)

Best Part - no one else can afford him! Yankees are gonna raise the price on him.

Better Best part - they still won't play him at his best position!

You schmucks have been handcuffing him with the err, I mean Air of Jeter and wonder why? Like squeezing a basketball and wondering why orange juice isn't coming out...

If Jeter would have swallowed his ego (all the shirts would be right , and) he would have been in the outfield the day Paul (Yanks won't win one without me) O'Neill stepped away. Or moved to second to have A-Rod at SS at the LEAST!!!

It IS Christmas in my household when the Yankees do their annual drowning (choking on that hype is more drowning than choking). But this year we won't fully celebrate until the other wicked witch dies too... who am I kidding, it's always sweet!!!

The Mets will give him a five year, $125 MM deal. Then they'll either move Reyes to 2B (fine w/me) or to Minnesota with Mike Pelfrey (and Carlos Gomez?) for Johan Santana.

5/$25per won't be enough.

A-Rod will get at least 8/$30per.

And it will be from the Cubs.

That's what Jeter said, not me!

He is YOUR problem new York... You made the mess, now sleep in it!

George ain't dead yet! He has some more "I want Sheffield, not Vladmir Guerrero" moments left in him! I'll bet you $5 he hires Showalter to be the sacrificial transition to "Don Mattingly, Manager".

Then George will die, and the Yankees organization will go into a new building with a directionlessly-ephed direction and will be looking UP to the Rays in standings... - "this is not my house! This is not my car! This is not my beatuiful wife!" - a bee-yoo-tee-full future indeed!

Showalter has one year remaining on his contract with Cleveland. I'll take the bet. Look at it from Boras' side. He already knows his dick fits in Theo Epstein's ass (Dice-K and Drew), and to a lesser extent Jim Hendry's (Soriano). Why risk injury in a virgin hole when you already have a couple places you know it fits?
