Why the hell is the NHL selling this rubbish?

I subscribe to the NHL Weekly E-Newsletter. It's a useful tool, and is a decent filler of a minute or three. But occasionally, things like this come through:

Last June, the Anaheim Ducks took home the Stanley Cup and reserved their place in NHL history. Now you have a chance to own a part of this historic achievement. Bid now on framed pieces of the 2007 Stanley Cup Presentation Carpet along with a player or team photo!

Why the hell would you buy a red carpet?! If you want a red carpet, go to a carpet shop, and buy one!

More importantly, who would want to buy it? The NHL must be in financial strife if they're selling carpets.

Not as bad as flowers, granted (in the immortal words of DNL, "The NHL. A bunch of pansies."), but still, strange.

Well, if that's you, then:

  • God help you
  • Go to NHL.com to bid on it

I could see buying the entire carpet, but framed pieces of it? Can you imagine the conversations caused by having one of these on display?

"Gee, Bob, you've got a really nice house, but what's that red thing in a frame over there?" "Well, boss, it's a slice of carpet from the stanley Cup presentation."

"Bob, you're fired."
