Why is Tommie Harris' statement a big deal?

by user Simms1156

I dont understand why the media is making a big deal about the fact that Tommie Harris said he would rather have Donovan McNabb than Rex Grossman. I understand the fact that you are supposed to be loyal to your teammates but come on some things are just fact. I am not a McNabb fan by anymeans, in fact I think he is vastly overrated, but to ignore the fact that he is far superior to Rex is just ignorant. I mean you know deep down Rex knows that if he was in Tommie Harris' position he would rather have Donovan McNabb to. I mean McNabb is an established pro bowl quarterback and Rex Grossman is...useless! I see no reason for Tommie Harris being critisized because in a moment of honesty any Chicago Bears including Rex Grossman would agree with him.

Agreed. I don't think it was that big of a deal either, but usually in the off-season, small stories can be made into bigger ones because there's no playing on the field.

It wasnt a bad thing what he said, but here is the bottom line. When you are on a team you are a unit, and like it or not you are paid to support that unit and tow the company line. When you undermind your QB like that you are underminding the company and that becomes a distraction at the very least.

even when that same bonehead keeps on screwing up time after time? See, I believe there's a phrase for when somebody can't hold up his end of the responsibilities...It's "You're Fired!" Yes, that company fires your ass and find somebody that can do the job better than you....It's a better business decision. So much for the distraction, huh?

I don't think it's a big deal, but I think that undermining someone who is supposed to be the leader of your team could be a big deal if applied on a larger scale.

The fact is, Grossman is NOT going to get the job done. Harris has every right to make his complaints. This has been said before and this should light a fire under Grossman's ass and force him to up his play.

I would take one of the Bears janitors over Rex at QB.

The Kid playing at Chicago Central high could win the starting job over Grossman.

For a guy who was injured and couldn't even help his team in the playoffs, Tommie Harris should be focussed on getting his own ass back on the playing field rather than ripping Rex Grossman.

That has anything to do with it? I know him personally. And he knows quite a bit more football than you do. I'm an Eagles fan and I think mcnabb is overrated. He's an idiot more times than not. That's why we drafted Kolb, since we'll never win a super bowl with mcNabb.

Read it again...maybe i misconstrued it, but my point was that his name is Simms...assumably paying Hommage to Phil Simms...(Hopefully not Chris!)...and IMO, if you think McNabb is overrated, then you have to think Simms is... He may know more than me...a lot of people do...a lot of people here do...but there's not reason to insult me...But McNabb has produced more results as a QB in Philly than any QB in the last 50 years...

Yea, that's saying alont since who was our best QB in the past 50 years? oh yea, Cunningham. If ANYONE says Jaws was good I will tell jesus on you.

And that was my topic you argued in about A-Rod :D.

How is Simms overrated? please tell me, I mean, he wasn't the greatest but the guy was damn good. He got a super Bowl ring, in that super bowl (Correct me if I am wrong) didn't he go 22-25 on passing? I believe so.

Phil Simms was truly an above average QB...

Simms career QB rating was 78.5...McNabb's is 85.2...and to put that in perspective joe Montana's career 92.3 and Tom Brady's is 88.4.

Should I mention a Parcells/Belichick Team and defense? Or some guy named Lawrence Taylor who may or may not being the greatest LB ever? Oh and some hall of famer named Harry Carson too...hmm...

If that's the case, let me remind you Cunningham had Gang Green. Brady has a top teir defense. How about the fact that Elway had an overwhelming defense? Shall we delv deeper? The niners D with lott when montana was around was unbelievable. It's true defenses win chapionships. So the credit will always go to the D (Except inPeyton's case). But that's not an excuse to give the guy credit, or to find a reason to bash someone merely because of their name.

or his 78.5 QB rating...Randall Cunningham...that's what you got...believe I like randall, good guy...not the brightest bulb though...

and what i said...again...was "Read it again...maybe i misconstrued it, but my point was that his name is Simms...assumably paying Hommage to Phil Simms...(Hopefully not Chris!)...and IMO, if you think McNabb is overrated, then you have to think Simms is... "

and the difference between other good QBs and Simms...[This guy won a superbowl with simms team...anyone could do it then...

I think it's great what he said. I hope it lights a fire under Rex's ass so that he goes out and proves that he can win a Super Bowl. I have faith in Rex, at times last year he showed he can be a great QB and unfortunately at times he showed he's not worth the dog crap I stepped in last night. Hopefully this motivates him.

Simms early career was marred by injuries so that contributed to his early struggles also the Giants were just not that good in his early years and he was not ready to go into the games. Simms also never had much in the way of receivers. He had Steven Baker, Phil Mcconkey them guys are both ehh. Bavaro was good but this was in the era before the evolution of the TE as a viable option in the passing attack. And I not only am paying homage to simms in my name it is also LT hence the 56, I know them superbowls wouldnt have been possible without 56 roaming the field. Until Mcnabb gets himself a superbowl MVP Simms will always be ahead to me at least. Also the year Hostetler was the qb the running game dominated and PARCELLS beat the bills with the ball control offence not allowing the Bills to get into their fast paced style.

After a closer examination of Simms stats it is obvious how much he grew as a qb through the years

1979 New York Giants 66.0 1980 New York Giants 58.9 1981 New York Giants 74.0 1983 New York Giants 56.6 1984 New York Giants 78.1 1985 New York Giants 78.6 1986 New York Giants 74.6 1987 New York Giants 90.0 1988 New York Giants 82.1 1989 New York Giants 77.6 1990 New York Giants 92.7 1991 New York Giants 87.0 1992 New York Giants 83.3 1993 New York Giants 88.3 NFL Totals 40 38 4647 2576 55.4 33462 7.20 199 4.3 157 3.4 477 3418 78.5

Here you can see that in 1983 the light started to go on for Phil and he bacame and elite quarterback. 1999 Philadelphia Eagles 60.1 2000 Philadelphia Eagles 77.8 2001 Philadelphia Eagles 84.3 2002 Philadelphia Eagles 86.0 2003 Philadelphia Eagles 79.6 2004 Philadelphia Eagles 104.7 2005 Philadelphia Eagles 85.0 2006 Philadelphia Eagles 95.5 TOTAL 85.2 You can see based on Mcnabbs stats that he had one superior season (2004) which just so happend to be the only season of either one of their careers where one of them had a go to reciever.

For SImms 84 to 93 were 9 strong years Mcnabb has had from 00 to 06 as strong years so though he is on pace for more good years than simms he is not quite ahead of him yet

Well, its not that I think Simms was bad or McNabb is great...or was better...its just that if you think Simms was a great QB and say McNabb is overrated, than I have to disagree... Statistically, McNabb will be (if not already) better than simms...and if you subsribe to the Tom Brady school of greatness, than Simms is better until superbowls (Maybe SB MVPs, but I really don't look at MVPs for a game...if McNabb wins 3 SBs in the future...would you still consider Simms better...who cares?!)

Love all the negatives I'm getting, anyway...McNabb has yet to win us a SB, He's yet to prove he can win the big game. He's the Peyton manning of the NFC. Like someone stated about my Shockeyt argument. Stats don't show the whole story. Simms had many good years with a sub-par offense, save for Bavaro, but a smentioned, this was before TEs were a viable option. We have a Brady-esq situation though, can you really say Hostleter won that SB? Or was it Parcells and the coaching staff out-coaching the Bills? I'll go with the latter.
