Why are they already talking about basketball? Enough already!

Here it is at the mid point of the summer and the basketball playoffs finally ended just before the fourth of July. Then there was the NBA draft. And now there is still basketball talk, such as who's staying and who's going and what kind of deals should be made. By the end of September, barely into fall, they'll start their version of a training season.
When did basketball become a year-round sport? Yes, I know that it is popular on playgrounds during the summer because during the regular season in many cities it is too cold to play outside very often. The area I am in has two teams, so that steps up the talk, also.
Baseball dies down right after the World Series, not to be heard from again til late February at the very earliest. Football quits after the Pro Bowl and is gone for almost six months before that game in Canton. Hockey has a tight six month's schedule, too. But basketball? All year, I swear.
