Why Won't USA Basketball Listen To Bill Simmons?

by user Davis21wylie In the current issue of ESPN The Magazine, Bill Simmons suggested that USA Basketball send the And1 Streetball All-Stars to the 2008 Olympics as Team USA. Which is, of course, the single most awesome idea I've heard regarding international basketball since the news broke that Andrei Kirilenko's wife is totally cool with him, uh, testing the American waters (as long as she knows about it). Yeah. So, my question is, why not? If they lose, we can write our usual response columns after a disappointing Team USA loss (you know, "these guys lack fundamentals", "these guys are too selfish", "these guys have way too many tattoos", etc.), except that the complaints would actually be valid. But if they won... Can you imagine Deshun "Father Time" Jackson raining down threes over Theodoros Papaloukas? Dennis "Spyda" Chism doing his thing on an Olympic rim? How can this idea possibly go wrong?
