Why Trade Denis?

Why did the Blue Jackets trade their star goaltender Marc Denis to the Lightning? I think it was a mistake. Yes, we got Fredrik Modin and Fredrik Norrena from them, but don't trade a star that we have. I am very disappointed with this trade. Any one else?

Modin for Denis (whom I'd hardly classify as a "star") is a pretty good deal for the Jackets, Modin being an above-average forward capable of 25-30 goals a season (Columbus really needs scorers too), and Denis being a pretty average goalie (.900 Sv% when the NHL average was .901). Meanwhile, Pascal Leclaire looked good enough last season to take over as the starter in net permanently (.911 Sv%). Maybe they can also shop for a proven backup goalie over the summer, but Norrena is a veteran pro and one of the best goalies in Swedish Elite League history, so if push comes to shove he can be the No. 2. I don't see this as a catastrophe for Columbus, really.

I agree, Denis should definently not be classified as a star. He might be the greatest goaltender Columbus has ever seen, and that's why Columbus finished with the 5th worst record in the league last year, and has never made the playoffs.
