Why Should We Be Shocked With the Mitchell Report?

Seriously, why even bother? The MLB has already been known to have MANY players take steroids. Heck, the fact that it was legal until a few years back makes this report even more wacky. He says he is going to list 50 or more players from retired to still playing, you could have many names that you are familiar with on there, but quite honestly, it is not that shocking. It may be for about 30 seconds or so, trying to take in something like "Roger Clemens used steroids", but it's baseball. You're probably thinking that this is a rant on baseball, a sport you don't care much about, well you know what, it's not just baseball, it's sports in general. That's the cold reality, many of these athletes are on drugs either to enhance their performance, because winning is everything, and since winning is money, money is everything.

George Mitchell can read off the names of all of these guys, they can investigate what is going on in the NBA, the NFL, and soccer leagues, but the fact of the matter is, if you are going to be involved in sports, you're pretty much in the same league with the corporate boys up top. It sickens me when I hear that golfers are needing steroids. For what? You're hitting a ball with a club, what do you need drugs for? But it's sport, and sports generates revenue based on marketing and winning, and many of these guys (the agents, the managers, the athletes), will do anything at all cost for it.

Go on, be surprised, be shocked, that the person you grew up admiring for their play has been busted. But I'll say it again, in the world of sports, the back drop is sickening.

MLB may not have had a rule against steroid usage but certainly it is a federal crime to abuse/possess these drugs without a prescription. No doubt that this is a dark day for sports.
