Why Does the NFL Always Need to Have "Nice Conditions" For the Super Bowl?

by SSreporters

Seriously, it makes no sense at all. San Diego, Miami, Glendale, all of the places in which it is drop dead gorgeous weather in February. Maybe the NFL needs variety. It doesn't have to be the same places over and over again, it gets monotonous. Have Denver host the Super Bowl, and have 2 teams play in -5 degree temperatures. Put it in Seattle, Chicago, Cleveland, it doesn't have to be either a dome or a stadium in a location in which the city has beautiful weather. We need diversity, the fans will show up, Miami had a great Super Bowl with Manning and everything IN THE RAIN!! What does that tell you?

These are grown men playing football, not little 7 year olds. They play in the snow, rain, wind, all of the freaking time! Why should the Super Bowl be put in like 5 cities? It would be incredible to see a Snow Bowl between San Diego and San Francisco, not "Perfect Conditions". There isn't such thing anyway.

It baffles me why these guys are treated like they're delicate. Wouldn't you want to see Peyton Manning frozen in Chicago?

I know there is no way I'll have more than 6 people agree with me, but don't you think the NFL should expand where the Super Bowl should be held, with the weather not being a factor?

I think it would be great to have a cold weather Super Bowl. However, warm weather teams and dome teams might complain that having a Super Bowl in Chicago, Green Bay, or New England would be an advantage to a cold weather team, and I think the point of having the Super Bowl down south is to neutralize that edge. Here's an idea, how about building a National Stadium somewhere that was devoted to the Super Bowl and the NCAA national championship. Like an American Wembly. It makes no sense and will never happen, but it'd still be cool.

No, it makes TOO much sense and that's why it'd never work. It'd be great to have a place where we could come together as a country to watch the super bowl, NCAAs, National Soccer, Rugby and Basketball teams. But where do you put it?

Well than wouldnt playing in a warm weather stadium give a team like The Bucaneers an unfair advantage over a cold weather team like the Patriots? THe point is NFL players are like postal workers, they play no matter what the weather. It would be nice to have a superbowl in a cold weather stadium at least once to try it.

It's not really that warm on a February night no matter where you are. Warm weather teams have an edge in September and October when it's hot.

Its not warm anywhere in February, but its a lot warmer in Miami than Buffalo... and there is a big difference in 5 degrees and 55 degrees

It is politics... thousands of important people go to this game... it has to do with the city... and there are alot of other factors... it would be nice to see a Superbowl played in the snow, but that isn't going to happen...

It's all about money. The NFL is a business, and they make so much more money when you can have all the extra shit outdoors during the week leading up to the game. Warm weather means more media, more important people, more money. But, yeah, I'd love to see a Super Bowl on the Frozen Tundra.

You don't think weather affects playoff games and who goes to the superbowl. By your logic all of the playoff games and perhaps the regular season should be played in warm weather cities. Even a week 9 loss in Green Bay could keep a team out of the playoffs. Sloppy conditions are part of football, if the teams only wanted to play in warm weather they would play baseball.

It would be really cool to see this. But we live in a new age of good weather and letting the important people watch the game. Unfortunately, not many celebs would want to go out to the stadium in Green Bay in 0 degree weather. We live in a new era, so we're probably never going to see something like the Ice Bowl ever again.

Technically, the Ice Bowl was an NFL Championship game before Super Bowl II, akin to an NFC Championship game now.

They don't want the weather to influence the outcome of the game. They also feel that the host city would get more out of towners if it is in a nice weather city.

Problem is the week leading up to the Super Bowl is a giant party, with the Super Bowl being it's conclusion. People were nervous about having it in Detroit, because it's cold weather. People want to party and watch the only football game they care about and make it a vacation. Besides, how many people will pay thousands of dollars to sit in -5 degree weather?

After watching last years shitty super bowl in the rain, i want to give it the best possible chance to be played in good weather. I want two good teams playing a clean, well executed game with the best team coming out on top. As far as I'm concerned we might as well hold it in Arizona every year cause i don't want people slopping around in the rain, snow, etc.

Huh? You don't want them to??? Look, we've had a number of Sunny Super Bowls that have sucked (Super Bowl 5,7,35, etc.), so this "well executed" thing you're talking about makes NO sense.

I totally agree. John Madden and I would both really enjoy a Super Bowl played somewhere cold. Football is supposed to be played in the cold and people who'll only go to the game if its somewhere warm are pussies.

It would be kinda of cool to do the Super Bowl much like they do the NBA,MLB,and NHL and have the game in the stadium of the team that has the better regular season record. But then once again if one of those Northern teams aka.Green Bay,Chicago,Buffalo not too many fans may show up.

The problem with this is that the Super Bowl is such a massive event with so many media passes and hotel rooms booked that the NFL and the press need to know where it will be several weeks in advance. If they waited until the Conference Championship games to find out where it is, it would be chaos.

I think they should rotate to all of the stadiums like they do the All-Star game in baseball. You can still schedule it years in advance but use all of the Stadiums. Football is a winter sport. It is rediculous that the Confrence championships can be played in the snow but not the superbowl.

Frankly, I think the NFL should commit to having the Super Bowl in New Orleans every year for the time being -- it would be a giant boost to the local economy and a vote of confidence for the community. It wouldn't have to be permanent, but I think it would be good for the next few years.
