Why Does Romo Have To Be The New Anybody ?

17
Vote

by Paticus

Romo's the new Brady...

Romo's the new Brett Favre...

Romo's the new Roger Staubach...

Romo's the new iPhone...

Can't we just let him be Tony Romo ?

 Huh, people ?

Can't we ? (wipes away tear.)

He's just a young man trying to win football games in this crazy work-a-day world. Must we compare him to everyone else ?

Can't he just continue to try to be the best Tony Romo that he can be ?

Why isn't that enough ?

I just hope he's not the next Chad Hutchinson.

Because apparently we live in a sports culture that insists on comparing today's greats to the greats of yesteryear. Never mind how pointless and trite that is, because it's impossible to compare eras (especially with this era's penchant for drug-based cheating; not saying Romo does, but it's a valid point). LeBron James has to deal with the same comparisons (the next Jordan, et al), and it's just as stupid. I agree with you; just let Romo be Romo. And as a Redskins fan, I hope Romo being Romo includes as Rex Grossman-like performance. :P

Exactly that is what we do in this society. You have to be the next, or you have to be compared to something. They've been looking for the next Jordan since 92

There will never be another MJ. The sooner the NBA realizes this, the better off it'll be.

I agree with this. The media loves making comparisons, it's like no one can build their own legacy anymore. Brady's the next Montana, LeBron's the next MJ, blahblahblah. I can see the similarities, but that doesn't mean they're exactly alike.

Quoting my father in Law: The Chiefs haven't had a good quarterback since Lenny Dawson was here...And its really true, too. Sometimes I'll answer: Didn't Joe Montana play here for a while? He was pretty good.

There isn't enough Cocaine in Dallas for that. Why do you think the Cowboys didn't renew their training camp contract in Oxnard? Too much blow.

I love the comparisons they give, especially early in their careers. We don't hear Brett Favre being the next Dan Marino. We hear him being Brett Favre. Yet we hear Lebron James being the next Michael Jordan. In 10 years, we'll think of him as Lebron James, the person who couldn't live up to the hype put on by all of us being Michael Jordan and we would all think Dwayne Wade was better (even if it wouldn't be true) because nobody really compared him to anybody like they did with Lebron.
