Why Do We Love Fantasy Sports?

I have been playing fantasy football for 15 years, and I can't get enough of it. I have friends that have been playing this long, some even longer. Fantasy baseball players are addicts of the sport, and treat it almost like a religion. I started the fantasy football when I was in junior high school, and have continued it well into my adult life, and I love it, and don't know how I would get by without it. My question is why? Why do we love this so much? I think it is because we think we can do better than our favorite team's general manager, and it is really fun trying. I am curious to your opinions. Please discuss...

It's allows to do what is the most fun in sports - build and manage a team towards a championship. An actual GM job would be any sports fans dream, and fantasy sports allow us to do that, even if in a fantasy world...where we spend thousands of hours a year...for bragging rights amongst friends...at the expenses of those who actually actually care about us in the real world.

Who cares....It's fun!!!

I have no idea why I play it every year because I honestly suck something awful at fantasy. Losing isn't fun, but somehow fantasy still is.

Same reason people play Sim City and all those games...we all have a God complex, loving to control and make things happen. We can build teams and have fun doing it. And if we lose, who cares. Keep it coming.

2 words - Bragging rights! Especially when you're playing aginst your friends for cash! Every year, in baseball I have anywhere from 9 - 17 teams (4 yahoo accts that can 4 teams & 1 keeper league on CBS Sportsline) and about 8 teams in football...

Fantasy sports makes us feel like we are the GM / owner of a team. It is all about power, ego, competition and, of couse, bragging rights.

It's very conducive to expanding your knowledge of players, teams, trends and other things you may not active follow otherwise. Playing fantasy has made me a much more rounded and knowledgable baseball fanatic.

It gives us an opportunity to match wits with others in our circle. It also provides us with an avenue to "turn the screws" on those circle members when our brilliant, yet underestimated squad puts a first-rate "whomping" on one of our buddies. Bottom Line: It's very satisfying watching grown men cry!
