Why Do People Hate Kobe Bryant?

17
Vote

by user Dre

In my opinion Kobe Bryant is the best player in the NBA right now but he is also the most hated player in the NBA. I have visited many discussion forums and brought up the question of why is he so hated, and I get various responses which seem like bull. People say he is a rapist because he paid the girl off. As far as I know they were the only two people in the room that night so no one else knows what happened. Also he did not pay her off, he settled the suit to get back to focusing on his career and to keep his sexual history private.

People also say he is selfish and they bring up the Shaq thing. As far as I know Kobe has been good friends with many teammates like Derek Fisher, Rick Fox, GP, Caron Butler, Brian Shaw, etc. He is also very well respected by his peers. The Shaq situation was all put on him when it should not have been. Kobe puts it all on the line and does everything he can to win. Shaq does not. Shaq never came to training camp in shape and one season he chose to have toe surgery at the beginning of the season rather than during the off season. Who is selfish in these instances? I can understand why Kobe would not want to play with Shaq. It is the same as a person with a regular job working with a lazy person, they HAVE to do everything and they get used to only trusting themself.

Even though Shaq has all the Finals MVPs, Kobe is the reason they won those titles. Why you ask? Because it was Kobe’s job to win the lakers all those close games the last 5 minutes while Shaq was sitting on the sidelines, and he did it for 3 straight seasons. Yet he does not get credit for it. Kobe was also the only that threw the lob to Shaq in 2000 that sparked their comeback versus the Trailblazers.

A lot of people say he is selfish and greedy. Many people were celebrating his 81 point game while others where saying, ” he only had 2 assists”. His team was down, his teammates where doing nothing and he took over the game. When a player gets hot, go to him. Regarding his assist total, a player gets an assist when his pass leads directly to a basket, so if he is passing to people like Kwame and Odom and they miss layups, that is not his fault.

People also say that “he doesn’t make his teammates better”. That is a statement that the media had been saying all last season and now regular people are saying it too. The statement is stupid and makes no sense. You cannot make other players better, all you can do is get other players open shots and they have to knock them down. People say Jordan made people better, no, he got others open shots, that’s it.

I have also heard some say that he is holding basketball back from being a team game. Basketball is a team game but it is also entertainment. I know the majority of basketball fans would rather see a 50 point game from Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Melo, etc., then watch the Pistons play the Spurs. Why do you think the 2005 Finals was rated so low? It was boring.

You see what teams and players sellout and you see what teams and players play on TV the most. Telling fans that Billups and the Pistons are coming to town will not lead to any sellouts, further proving my point.

I think the biggest factor in the hate of Kobe is that a lot of fans have Jordan on a pedestal as the best player in NBA history and they don't want anyone to be better than he is, which is what Kobe wants. Kobe wants to be known as the best player in NBA history when he leaves the game and for that people can't stand him.

There are loads of players as hated or even more hated in the NBA than Kobe. Kobe fans are just as big of whining babies as Kobe is so they think he's the most hated, as Kobe does.

You took the time to write a 700-word, thought-out, decently-written arguement that goes against popular opinion and you're going to shrug it off with, "I could care less"? Why should I take the time to respond? That almost makes me want to retract my vote for the article. Stand up for what you think and write about! Fight for your right to Party! Oh wait...

The point of this article is to voice my arguments against many of the things I have heard and hear what others think of him. I am not hear to force people to agree with me, I am not going to cry if people don't agree with me, I just think it is weird how he can be hated for no valid reason.

A few of some other players who - depending on who you talk to and for various reasons - are equally or more hated than Kobe Bryant (listed alphabetically and wikified for your convienience): Ron Artest, Vin Baker, Carlos Boozers, Vince Carter, Ricky Davis, Eddie Griffin, Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady, J.J. Redick, Wally Szczerbiak, Antoine Walker and Rasheed Wallace.

Out of that list I would say T Mac, VC, AI are not hated at all. Those guys get love in every city. Only time they get booed is in the playoff. The other guys are not really that well known except Walker and Artest. As far as Walker goes he gets booed more at home than on the road and Artest has barely played the last two years. J.J. is a solid pick, he will hear it from the fans this season, if he even gets in the game.

T-Mac, VC and AI share the prima donna loathment of Kobe. Any player (I forgot Paul Pierce) who at one point arrogantly welcomed a "next MJ" or "league savior" labled and has since turned into a pouting whiner is not welcomed in most NBA cities

People don't like Kobe because of his personality. He comes off as whiny and as a child. He rode Shaqs and Phils' backs to titles and ran them both out of town(Shaq didn't need him did he?). Jordan came off as a tough competitor, but never a baby. Kobe does. Now the next generation of NBA stars have even eclipsed Kobe and are already classier than he ever was.

If Kobe wants to be better than Jordan, he will try to do everything Jordan does but better and he will try to do things Jordan could not do. It is like a business, if I try to build an MP3 to compete with apple I will have every feature they have plus another 20 they don't have. The biggest thing that people don't realize is that he does not want to be like Jordan, he wants to be better than Jordan.

For anyone who was trying to figure out who MJ tried to be like, he clearly stated early in his career that he idolized and wanted to be like Dr. J (julius erving for u idiots) and if u guys look at the flair in which the both played and the mannerism at attacking the rim, u could clearly see that MJ copied Dr. J (even tho he eventually became better)...so for all of u dumb, ignorant people who dont even kno the history of basketball, dont even start with a stupid reason like "Kobe tries to be like MJ too much", or "He's a fake" becuz all greats have imitated a previous great to become a legend.

I'm not neccesarily a Kobe hater, but he is a fake and is arrogant. Take the Raja Bell situation. His arrogance is demonstrated when he gets knocked down and then "brushes" himself off when he gets up. He refers to Raja as a "kid", when we all know that Kobe is younger than Bell. And then the "I don't even know him" statements. We also know they have a history that goes back to when the Lakers played Philly in the finals. He is so arrogant that he didn't want to even acknowledge Raja Bell exists. Let's face it, you either love him or hate him. You can't question his BB talent and accomplishments, but he is seen as a fake, arrogant, pompous ass.

All the Raja Bell situation says to me is that Kobe is a player. He respects the people that he feels deserves it and if he doesn't respect you then he won't show it. He has been quick to acknowlegde his respect for other players like Melo, Jordan, and Lebron. He doesn't have to respect everyone, especially in such a competitive sport.

No matter whether you love or hate Kobe, you cannot disagree that the media helps spurn and incite hatred towards Kobe. Look at ABC basically instigating the feud between Kobe and Shaq by putting Lakers/Heat games on Christmas Day two years in a row. It was disgusting. And I didn't see quite the same amount of attention paid by the media when Kobe and Shaq finally called a truce. Personally, Kobe Bryant is one of the best basketball players {if not the best} in the NBA without a doubt. His arrogance and selfishness turn me off at times, but that is just his flaw as a human being. Last time I checked, we're all flawed human beings!! Thus, there is no reason for hatred towards Kobe or anybody else.

The claim that Shaq won titles because of Kobe instead of the reverse is simply laughable. Watching the Lakers reduces basketball to basketbore, because it's Kobe goes right, Kobe goes left, Kobe shoots.

All the Colorado 'incident' proves is that Kobe is a self-indulgent, arrogant boor, like all too many pro athletes.

It's not about hating the guy; it's about loving the game and hating the style that Bryant represents. Team basketball can be an art form, and too often the contemporary NBA reduces it to individuality and self-importance.

The bottom line is this and the ratings prove it most basketball fans would rather see a star get his then watch the Pistons and Spurs and any team like that play. If I go to the gym in the morning and someone says did you see that game last night Lebron had 55 points, everyone will star crowding around like "who had 55 points, who were they playing, etc". I doubt people will do that if you say all 5 Milwaukee Buck starters had 20 points last night. Seriously when have you ever seen home fans boo someone on their team that is just hitting everything. Those fans are hoping the game never ends. The points you make really stink. As far as Shaq goes it took him 8 years to get a championship because he didn't have someone to takeover while he was to lazy to play hard, while he was in foul trouble, or while he was sitting on the bench in the last 5 minutes of every game.

How can anyone suggest that the stars of today reduce the game to individuality when you had Michael Jordan jacking the ball up in the mid 80's putting up 37.1 and 35 points per game? People say that Jordan had to do this due to the lack of supporting cast. Who have the Lakers been able to surround Bryant with over the past three seasons? Sasha Vujucic, Kwame Brown, Chris Mihm, Luke Walton??? Sure they have Lamar Odom but he is no Scottie Pippen and nobody can suggest anyone that the Lakers have placed at Center is nearly as good as Bill Cartwright who was always underrated as a Center.

i am a devout laker fan... but it is hard to watch games these days. kobe is a killer, he is the greatest in the game today, and i believe may be the best ever in a few years. but the lakers can't knock down open shots, and our bigs miss layups with horrendous frequency. in essence comparing jordan with kobe in terms of titles, jordan had pippen for 6, and rodman for 3... kobe doesnt have anywhere near the talent on the current laker roster... comparing them is not really practical at all. they dropped the rape case on kobe because the female could not support any evidence. she had a sperm bank in her panties, she went to his room at midnight, and she wanted the money. kobes banked 200 million in his career, he can send a few dollars her way to stop the smearing of his name in the media for cheating on his wife. nike probably paid it for him. if the lakers can make SOMETHING happen in the next year or so i think kobes title county will go up a few numbers. dont hate, appreciate the most exciting talent in the game that draws the best ratings and puts the lakers on national tv at least 3 or 4 times a month.

mj and kobe are awesome. The two best players that will ever play the game. jordan is on a pedestal. The nba built his legacy just like lebron. Kobe came out of high school with some hype but not as much as lebron and the media always kissed mjs ass so everyone would eventually like him. kobe gets hated on by the media. jordan used to punch teammates in the face i.e bill cartwright after a loss. I live in chicago and know all about it. Shaq is one of the most overrated players in the history of the game. All he can do is dunk. and he can only do the cuz he is fat as hell. I will say though he is an excellent passer for a big man, but for him to be classified as one of the best ever is a joke!!! Kobe will be the best ever. oh and he didnt rape anyone. The way things are nowadays there is no way a girl wouldnt want to have sex with an allstar basketball player. She had sex with him and new she could get paid for it and she did. Just think if you got raped you would want the person to be in jail. Not get money. Imagine if your wife or daughter or son or whoever you care about got raped, you mean to tell me you would take money over that person going to jail. I mean get real. Kobe shouldnt have cheated on his wife, but he isnt the only one who has. Probably half of the people on here have cheated on their wife. We all know mj did. he admitted it and that is why his wife divorced him. Most people are stupid and have no right to an opinion. Kobe is a great teammate a great person and a great basketball player. So if you want to hate kobe then hate him. But dont hate him out of ignorance, hate him for a reason!!! Go Lakers!!!

Kobe bryant is the best player in the NBA no denying that

it took hard work and determination to get to that point. as a basketball player myself you have to be a fierce competitor to be sucessful and sometimes he is seen as arrogant and cauky but i see it as total confidence that he will get the job done no matter what... remember basketball is his job we cant forget that... he talks his shit to get in other peoples head because it has a negative effect on there play..and if you try and get in kobe's head he

goes off for 50.. like the ron artest incident this past year
