Why "World Champion"?

Stop asking this question. I'm tired of answering then having the entire discussion deleted.

I have a similar problem with "Miss Universe" (old joke, of course (only one planet in one solar system involved), but still irritating). It goes back to the development of the various leagues. The National League and the American League (in baseball) were separate at one time (same goes with such things as AFL and NFL) and later combined into one league - their championship consists of two teams, one from each "league" competing in the "world series". Eventually "we" will need to have a team from Japan, Korea, etc. play in this "world series" so that it actually becomes a world series, instead of a contest between two leagues (NL and AL) under one umbrella (MLB).

Thanks for the reply. Frankly I'm pissed about the "World Champion" term and have been for a while now, but there's nothing you can do about it other than not use it yourself.

In all honesty, I love the term. With the exception of the NFL, the MLB, NHL, and NBA have become very international. Even though the games are played primarily in America, the diversification of the players is getting greater every year. World Champion does not need to refer to a team made up of players from the same nation, but the sport itself is palyed by players from all over the world, whence determining the World Champion.

I believe if the term should be used at all it should only be used in the NFL as the NFL is the only of the Big 4 that have all their teams in the United States. And appearently Americans don't like the idea of free health insurance and not owning a gun, therefore if Canada doesn't count as a country and America is the best country in the world, the Super Bowl Champion should be called the World Champion!!
