Who should a Mets fan root for?

Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Yankees. I vote for the Phillies. We can handle 8.5 back.

You are foolish to root for a divisional opponent in a non-divisional game. These games add up you know, even though Cholly is still the manager for the Phils.

I'm with JLew -- I was rooting for the Phils, for the reason he suggest. Consider it counting unhatched chickens if you must, but I don't really see the Phils as a threat to the Mets playoff hopes. Even if they challenge for the division, there's the WC.

DNL, i know i'm biased as a phils fan, but...No matter the lead, it is never a good idea to think you've won the division, especially pre-all-star break...case in point '64 phils...

Always root against division rivals. I agree with Christof, they may not seem like a threat, but don't count your chickens...

As much as I hate to do it, I also say root for the Yankees. No divisional lead is safe until you clinch. Keep in mind that in '69 the Mets were about 9 games back in August (I think) before storming back to take the division.
