For those of you who are fantasy football owners, you can understand this question. Who is the next MJD or Maurice Jones Drew? To be the next wire wonder is a difficult assignment... finding him is even more difficult.
Even in the real NFL draft if you find a player that exceeds expectations you are considered to have a great eye for talent. Take [[Marques Colston], drafted one away from being Mr. Insignificant, he made his way to not only the New Orleans Saints starting lineup in his rookie year but was a huge part of their run to the NFC Championship game. Everybody thought that Sean Payton, in his first year as head coach, did something all head coaches claim to have done, found the proverbial "diamond in the rough". If you were lucky enough to draft Marques Colston for your fantasy team or get him on a wire you too could hold your head up high and proclaim that you knew something that nobody else did.
But MJD and Marques Colston are last year's prize, who can we look at this year? Well let's look at the choices.
Out of the 2007 draft it's hard to say who is going to be the next waiver wire wonder, but looking at the 2007 off season changes I would have to say there are plenty of people under the radar. First up is Travis Henry. Henry was the running back for the Tennessee Titans last year and put up pretty good numbers, over 1200 yards and 7 touchdowns (stats from NFL.com). But he was running in an offense designed around the quarterback and behind an offensive line that isn't exactly known for their run blocking. This year he is at Denver and I believe he will make a big impact. Denver's offense likes to run down hill and their blocking scheme is set up just for that, Denver likes to open up their passing attack with the run and now they have a back that can set that up. Look for Henry to get at least 20-25 touches a game and average about 90-100 yards and 1 touchdown per game. In most drafts though Henry isn't taken as a backup or even in the top 3 rounds. If you can grab him in the mid 3rd round do so... you will be pleasently surprised.
