uhm... you sorta missed the point here, didn't you? I doubt Gordon qualifies for this contest...

I'm not surprised, but perpetually disappointed that women continue to be objectified within these professions that are almost exclusively male. Who cares who's hottest? Who cares? This is a SPORTS site. Do their looks have anything to do with their ability to drive? Does this topic do ANYTHING to advance the subject of race car driving? These so-called articles are shallow, pointless and sad.

Judging by the 10 votes for this post, I would say that it may not be pointless. It is actually kinda fun.

I disagree...objectifying women has made sports great...women's tennis, soccer in the US, pro wrestling...the list goes on and on...

If Danica was an attractive man, we wouldn't give two craps about her...from a marketing standpoint (and the fact that she's relatively good), this is great...

Danica patrick and her sex appeal are advancing the sport, you can't disagree all you like, but don't tell me more people don't watch/are interested because an attractive girl drives...

That was my point...her being attractive is good for racing... If its some ugly girl who was good, guys wouldn't really care/possibly be against it...mainstreaming takes time, this will help the process...sorta like weening the sport off of the men only persona...

It's irrelevant because this is not a sports popularity issue, it's an issue of respect. No one talks about a male indycar driver's penis.

I'm not saying that the marketing of their sexuality hasn't advanced the sport, but at what cost? Were all about money now, no matter how ill-gotten the gain? Is that really what it's come to? Sure, Danica Patrick showing some skin has been great for the sport, but at what cost? I'm more concerned about the cost to women in general, and continuously sending this message that the only way to succeed in the men's world of sports as a woman is allow yourself to be turned into an object rather than respected for your ability. Patrick isn't Anna Kournikova, she's actually TALENTED in the field she's pursuing. But that hardly matters, because the only thing we care about here is how she looks. Advancing the sport? We're not talking about the sport! We're talking about boobs.

Clearly, based on the pictures above, respect is a concern for her...

This will improve the sport...more people will watch/be interested...

She has chosen to be objectified much like pam anderson, or anna kournikova or even Maria Sharapova...once the enter the realm of marketing, they're accepting it...

Every other athlete does just about anything to gain fame, popularity, success, financial gain etc...why wouldn't they do this...

She is attractive, like David Beckham is attractive, like Tom Brady is attractive...is this right, debatable, will this help the sport, is it part of the sports world and is it what sports watchers (a large portion at least) are interested in...the answer to all 3 is yes

I know it's her choice. I'm not ignoring that fact, and I'm not ignoring that she shares in the guilt of perpetuating this problem. But what I'm talking about is the fact that this problem DOES get perpetuated...this idea that the ONLY way for a woman to succeed in sports is to be what Danica Patrick is. She can't just be great at a sport, she also has to be sexy. If we used the same metric for men that we use for women, Babe Ruth wouldn't be in the Hall of Fame.

With that said...at least take these articles for what they're worth...Danica Patrick is attractive and people want to see her...do you think people would like scarlett johanneson if she was significantly less attractive (she's a good actress, who can't do a british accent, but would she be as famous if she didn't look like that?) If we apply this too all fields it gets much muddier and enters into a whole realm of social issues...something that really doesn't belong here...but women in sports is an interesting bit...

I am taking it for what it's worth. But that doesn't mean I have to sit and quietly accept something that I think is disgusting. It's not even just about the women. We're doing OURSELVES a disservice with this stuff. Websites are delegitimized when they have stuff like this.

Nobody said America switched to minority rule. What I'm saying is that might isn't always right. I said the article was pointless, and Beast pointed out the 10 votes (at the time) and said it may not be pointless. And what I'm trying to say is that people are interested in lots of pointless things. Like American Idol. Like Deal or No Deal. Just because people like it doesn't mean it's good or useful. Bearing breasts is an important part of the separation of state and federal government? (Yes, I know it was just a typo). But seriously, I have a problem with your statement. The only commercials I have every seen with active IndyCar drivers have either had Danica or Sarah in them. Sponsorships are hard to come by in auto racing, so anything you can do I guess. What you said about "stop being f*** (words like this are not in my vocabulary) and relax" disgusts me. Just because a guy is not a he-man-woman-hating caveman doesn't imply anything about his sexual orientation. Expressing such thoughts only helps perpetuate stereotypes - about guys.
