We all know they're Awesome! They're All-Timers, the 'Best of our Generation' and could never be respected adequately or loved too much. There just doesn't seem to be enough discussion as to WHY they are so awesome! What is it that makes them so special? We could point out the obvious; They all dominate their respective sport. Even when they step off the field of play, they are style icons and pop culture celebrities. But let's go into MORE depth here... let's crack open a case of "Yea!-terade" and have at it!
Derek Jeter is the face of the Yankees, Nike baseball, Gatorade and Avon. He consistently ends up in the right place at the right time on the field. He hangs with Jordan and wisely broke up with Mariah Scarey to date actual HOT women. He has FOUR World Series rings. Derek Jeter IS Captain Clutch. He is the modern day Sinatra in New York. He's one of the best shortstops to play the game and the best Yankee middle infielder ever! Yet some people disrespect his greatness anyway. But WHY is he so AWESOME?
Terrell Owens is controversial and gets our attention. Admit it, you'd LOVE to have his physique. He loves to be a showman and express his creativity with TD celebrations but also gets clear results. He has never been arrested for any real crimes, and has been a model citizen off the field unlike many football players. He sleeps in a hyperbaric chamber (and sometimes through team meetings). He signs autographs and writes children's books. But WHY is he so AWESOME?
Barry Bonds is a an all-time great. The knock was he couldn't win the ring. He certainly came up big, even if it ended up being short in the 2002 World Series. He is about to eclipse one of the very cherished sports records of all time. He has never failed a steroids test. But we shouldn't we root for him to eradicate those old meaningless records, he's the greatest Home Run hitter of OUR time AND soon to be, All-time! Why is he so AWESOME?
J.J. Redick is a nice guy. He went to a scholastic and basketball powerhouse Duke University. He set unprecedented career records in the ACC! He was a #11 draft pick and kicks Adam Morrison's ass at video games. He writes poetry and on top of that, he is considered HOT! in some circles. Why is he so AWESOME?
Kobe Bryant, has three rings, racked up 81 points in one game, carries a Laker squad devoid of special talent and is one of the best one on one defenders in the league. He is a perennial All-Star and can take any game over at any point. He also has a smokin' hot wife. He changed his uni number and still has the leagues highest replica jersey sales. So why is he so AWESOME?
Tom Brady is "Tom Terrific". Three rings in four years. The only other QBs to do that are all in enshrined in Canton. He has an outstanding playoff record and always plays in a very poised demeanor. He defines the term "Field General". He has a girlfriend that many people think is sexy and the World's most famous chinbutt (sorry, Jm J. Bullock, you're #2). Is THAT why he is so AWESOME?
Alex Rodriguez is handsome, paid handsomely and has a handsome resume to hand in to the Hall of Fame voters when he retires (even if he retired right now). He has a 40-40 season, 2 MVPs, a batting title and multiple HR titles under his belt. He was humble enough to move from his natural position, Shortstop to move to third Base. Why is he so AWESOME?
David Beckham defines World Famous Athlete. He has produced on the biggest of the big stages. He is the premier penalty kicker in soccer. He has had movies honoring him and he married the only tolerable Spice Girl. His work ethic is as legendary as his stylish haircuts. The word "Metrosexual" was invented for him. He has some very sweet tattoo work. Is that why he is so AWESOME?
