Who is in the Hunt

The O'Brien Semifinalist List came out a few days ago and it took me a bit to try and capture my feelings about the candidates. The 2007 List has some worthy candidates, big name candidates, overrated talents, underrated talents, and maybe even a few that are not so good.

THE WORTHY

  1. Sam Bradford, Oklahoma. The Sooner faithful have a gem in Norman. This kid is going to bring them back to the title game by season's end next year. Plus, he is the only Freshman on the Semifinalist List. His passer rating is around 170, second in the nation!
  2. Dennis Dixon, Oregon. This kid does it all. I was so impressed with how he turned the afterburners on against Michigan and USC. he has a knack for the end zone and has been spectacular in all but one game this season.
  3. Todd Reesing, Kansas. Are you kidding me, the Jayhawks are undefeated. they absolutely stomped A&M this past week and Reesing is such a gritty talent, it would not surprise me if they go undefeated the rest of the season. He is pint sized, kinda like 'ol Davey O'Brien himself.
  4. Matt Ryan, Boston College. Undefeated, 2nd in the nation, two last minute drives for a win on national television against a stingy Va Tech defense. 'Nuff Said.
  5. Timothy "The Most Amazing LB QB I Have Ever Seen" Tebow, Florida. This guy continues to impress the pants off of me even after he gets beat, for a 3rd time this season. I am sorry to point out that the offense that makes him so great will probably be the offense that ends up getting him hurt. We will just have to see.

BIG NAME GUYS

  1. Colt Brennan, Hawaii. It is no surprise this guy made the list, but he has not been that impressive this season. I mean, he has done whats expected but he has thrown too many pics and has not "wow"ed the crowds like last season. Just average Colt this year.
  2. Brian Brohm, Louisville. Big name...good QB. Bad team. Brohm has been great as expected, but he is not a front-runner for anything because he keeps losing. If only he could play defense.

OVERRATED

  1. Graham Harrell, Texas Tech. Did anybody else watch Tech get stymied by the Mizzou Tigers?!?! Give me a break, for a team that only passes they really needed to be able to manipulate the defense a little better than that.
  2. Pat White, West Virginia. Explosive Z-Back. Not a QB. He does not have much of an arm, and that really bothers me.

UNDERRATED

  1. Rudy Carpenter, Arizona State. This guy has been so effective all season for the Sun Devils. They are undefeated, in a tough Pac-10 and he has been the cause for celebration numerous times this season. He does not get enough love because he is overshadowed by the other overrated QB's playing out west...but he will.
  2. Chase Daniel, Mizzou. This kid is extremely talented and knowledgeable. He has been running this offense since his days at Southlake HS in Texas. The Tigers are dominant and so is Daniel. he will be a front-runner for the award next season.

NOT SO GOOD

  1. Shaun Carney, Air Force. Well let's be honest, he is a tailback at QB.
  2. Corey Leonard, Ark. State. He has consistently been losing games against bad teams, no bueno.

While this seasons list has a few duds, I feel that is really strong with talented players. I can't wait to see what happens next!!!!!

Unfortunately my Heisman pick didn't work out. I'm afraid to pick another one out of the fear of jinxing that guy

Reesing should not be leading the voting.
