Who Made the Correct Decisions"

For those of you who are familiar with my “Making the Correct Decisions” series I participated in two drafts yesterday and several people either read these posts and took heed to this advice or they completely ignored it and went with their own gut feeling.

The whole premise of the series was if two players remained on the board at the same time which player will be the correct choice when it is your turn to draft. Along with some 1st round selections I went a little further into the draft with a couple of 2nd or possibly 3rd round choices that you may be faced with.

As we grew closer to the start of the season I actually had Brian Westbrook going a little lower (late first round or early second) than some Mock Drafts had him going (top 5). In one of my comments one person was quoted as saying ” Bush all the way! Westbrook is almost a lock to get hurt this year”. I know this is a pretty bold statement considering every player on the field is only six seconds away from a career ending injury, however, with Westbrook’s proneness to injury this could be considered a bold pick in the first round. We know Westbrook has skills, but when matched-up against Reggie Bush does he remain the better option? Well at least one owner MWC thinks so by drafting B-West tenth overall. Westbrook won this poll with 58% of the votes.

My closest match up consisted of Torry Holt or Chad Johnson and this was another match-up that could have gone either way. Holt won the poll with 16 out of 31 votes. Many people believe that Houshmandzedah will continue to take away opportunities from Johnson and once again as we’ve grown closer to the season I believe most people are correct in their thinking. In the second round of our draft the NFL Guru drafted Johnson 24th overall while Holt slipped three picks later to TJI Sports at twenty-seventh. Time will tell on this one.

In a later match-up of “Making the Correct Decision” I used the Owens or Fitzgerald poll to see how the general public viewed this situation and which player would most likely be drafted first. This match-up was used to see how many people would stay away from Owens because of his “cry baby” antics and the bad attitude that most people could do without. Owens won by a landslide with a total of 76% of the votes. In our fantasy draft Curveballs stuck with the trend by selecting Owens 26th as we watched Fitzgerald fall nine picks later to myfantasylineup. Owens is clearly the better option.

I followed the Owens/Fitzgerald match-up with Roy Williams or Javon Walker and myfantasylineup took heed to this poll by selecting Williams with his 38th pick, while Javon Walker found a home with The NFL Minute four picks later with the forty-second selection.

Each one of these match-ups could go either way, but as I mentioned in my series, “if you don’t make the correct decision in your fantasy draft it will make all the difference in your win/loss column”. Even though many of these match-ups were won or lost by a relatively close number, that close number could make a difference when it’s time for your fantasy playoffs. Only time will tell, but when faced with these dilemma’s be sure to “Make the Correct Decision” by drafting the player who you know will have the better season.

The Hazean sponsored this league and I thank him for inviting me and a group of other great owners. This should be a fun season, good luck everyone.

” Bush all the way! Westbrook is almost a lock to get hurt this year”.

Really? If anything Westbrook has less of a shot to get injured. Tony Hunt is now the 3rd down back, Correll Buckhalter is another year away from some brutal knee injuries and the offense will now feature him and the other 2 guys mentioned above in a slightly different way...

On top of that, Reggie Bush plays behind Deuce McAllister, who's a pretty good back in his own right, and fits the team more so than Bush...

Bush is, in fact, a glorified Brian Westbrook (hmm shifty, pass catching RB?) who are both glorified Tiki Barbers...

Even if the reasoning is wrong, doesn't the fact that Westbrook is going to lose carries and TDs to Buckhalter and Hunt support the guys overall argument to take Bush before Westbrook?

Same idea applies to Bush...McAllister is ahead of him on the depth chart...and Bush ain't no 3rd down back...

I figured that would stir up some controversy. Good points on both sides!
