Who's your daddy? Probably Travis Henry

by InterMat

As I watch Clemson take on Florida State here on a rare college football Monday, I do my normal Sunday evening (because I don't do this on Mondays) troll of the web, the television and of course randomly obscure wrestling message boards. Hell, today seemed like a workday when it started. I actually drove to the office this morning and then when I saw the gate closed and no cars in the parking lot, I realized "oh wait, it's Labor Day."

So while I started the day with an adult version of waiting for the bus on a Saturday, something did get to me on that previously stated "troll" of the webs.

The most recent post over at WrestlingTalk's non-wrestling related topics board opened my eyes and it's something I'm not sure people have noticed. I mean with all the talk of Appalachian State, no-hitters by rookies and Pedro this weekend, its easy to see why Denver running back Travis Henry has slipped under the radar.

I used to think the late Easy-E of the rap group NWA had set the standard for being the most prolific "baby daddy" in the world that is musician/athlete/celebrity stardom.

No, Henry has eclipsed Easy's record. Easy, rest his soul bitches, had seven kids with six different women before dying due to AIDS-related complications back in 1995.

Henry has NINE kids from NINE different women in FOUR different states. Who's your daddy ... if you don't know, it could be Travis Henry. I must say, the guy has been pretty prolific having not even turned 30 as yet. When the news finally reached the mainstream media, Henry retorted after a preseason game against the Cleveland Browns about it.

Said Henry: "People can judge me all they want. But only God can judge me."

As for child support, your guess is as good as mine. Two weeks ago, Henry was in the process of being tracked down by a collection agency looking for him to make good on a "rather large" bounced check for jewelry.

The Florida couple who just had sextuplets are perplexed.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution posted this story just over a week ago regarding Henry's child support issues: http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/dekalb/stories/2007/08/24/childpay_0825.html

When Travis Henry fails to make a child support payment, get back with me. Then I might actually care about the relevance of another man's personal life here at the 'Chair.

The question has already come up about his child support payments in a few print mediums.

And because of this, I've updated the post to reflect such happenings.

So does this count as "getting back?"

Thanks. Subtle point for an author so concerned about wrestling. Perhaps one's time would be better spent reviewing why a certain wrestler murdered his child in cold blood rather than prejudge and make assumptions of another athlete that has been neither charged or convicted of any crimes?

Hey Briggs, WRONG type of wrestling. I don't cover the fake shit. How about some research before you insert your foot in your mouth again. You question child support, and that's debunked. You point out wrestling, and you don't even have it right.

No, it's not a crime to have NINE kids from NINE different women before you're 30 years old. But don't you find somewhat of an ethical issue with it? "Oh, if he's a good father and supports them" -- spare me that crap, because I know it's probably coming.

Seriously, how can someone be a "father" to nine kids in four different states? Can you play catch with a paycheck? Can the paycheck help you with your homework? Can a paycheck teach you about safe sex? Well, probably more so than Henry.

It's not a crime, but when you bastardize how many kids that didn't have the choice to choose their father, yes, I take a slight issue with it.

You're honestly telling me you see nothing wrong with having nine kids from nine different women out of wedlock? No problem at all? If it's not a crime, it's ok?

Figures you'd deflect the topic.

How is it my business? It's not, plain and simple. I have a personal issue with people (athlete or not) that have bastard children left without a father. Yes, it's a part of society, but seriously, you don't find any problem with NINE kids from NINE women?

There's nothing illegal about it, but you find no problem with it, personal life or not.

Apparently you have an issue with anyone, writers, fans, whatever talking about athletes personal lives. So Steve Howe doing cocaine should be his own business; Len Bias overdosing should be his own business; Michael Vick's dogfighting should be his own business; Art Schliester's gambling should be his own business.

Oh, the only difference is those things were illegal right? Nine kids, no problems?

So Henry's going to reap what he sows when his career ends, has that jewelry bought from a bad check and nine kids that need something to eat? Glad you agree.

As far as any REAL question of child support goes - I can say that it has not been too much of an issue unless the 4 states are those he does not play in. I recall years ago when Shawn Kemp played bball for Seattle - there was a little trip from South Bend to Indianapolis when he played the Pacers and after the game he had a date with booking.

A buddy of mine who played for the Packers had the same situation whenhe came back for Notre Dame games. I got to see him more as a trustee in the jail (when I was bringing in others) than out visiting on campus.

My point being is that if it was a matter for us to worry about it (be it criminal) then he would not be too hard to find. As of now I would say the mothers had as much a choice as TH did.

This article and the subsequent attitude portrayed by this author are simply outstanding. (sarcasm font). Travis Henry has been convicted of no crime and yet is prejudged on a matter that is none of our business. As Dominator correctly pointed out, it takes "two to tangle" so to speak.

There is plenty of Contitutionally protected behavior that most of society finds reprehensible. Nine children out of wedlock by nine different mothers DEFINITELY qualifies. Not even the most ardent Libertarian would argue that this sort of rampant fatherlessness is good for society.

Ah, you mentioned me...

No Libertarian would ever claim that it would need to be good for society...

Your issue (at least, what i think you're hinting at) is that, while there is nothing wrong (inherently) with Henry fathering 9 kids (regardless of the babies' mommas) there is an issue with what will happen to the kids...some certainly will have less influence on their lives by fathers, may not grow up with a male role model, etc...but its not their fault (nor did they have a choice, etc etc)...

Of course, this is the same argument libertarians struggle with when talking about gay parenting (same sex couples w/ kids) etc...

Thought you all might enjoy a little quote from the article:

"Henry, 28, has fathered nine children by nine women in at least four Southern states and has been ordered by various judges to provide child support for seven of them, according to court records involving one child living in DeKalb County.

"DeKalb Superior Court Judge Clarence Seeliger this week ordered Henry to provide $3,000 a month for the Lithonia boy he fathered out of wedlock three years ago with Jameshia Beacham, now 29.

"Henry isn't the most thrifty guy, according to court records, so the judge wants to ensure payment by establishing an unusual $250,000 trust that Henry must fund by next spring.

"Seeliger wrote that the football player displayed 'bad judgment in his spending habits,' dropping $100,000 for a car and $146,000 for jewelry. Meanwhile, Henry fell behind on support payments for his child with Beacham that were mandated by a previous order. Threatened with jail, he borrowed $9,800 from his former team, the Tennessee Titans, to pay the bill, according to court records.

The trust ensures Beacham will get timely payment if the pro player falls behind in his installments again."

Well, of COURSE Henry had to spend $146,000 to buy jewelry. How else do you think he got all those women to sleep with him?
