Born on August 3, 1912 in Poplar Ridge, New York, Whitey Wilshere (Vernon Sprague Wilshere) played for the Philadelphia Athletics for his entire 3 year career. Wilshere broke into the bigs on June 24, 1934 with the Philadelphia Athletics, and put up a 4.05 ERA in 142.1 innings pitched in 1935, his rookie year.
