White Sox Cheating?

14
Vote

After being swept by the Chicago White Sox, the St. Louis Cardinals believe that the White Sox were using a center field camera to steal signs.

The Sox scored 33 runs against the Cardinals in the first 2 games of the series, and then in the finale managed only 1 hit and 1 run in a 1-0 victory.

As a life long White Sox fan who watches every game, let me assure the St. Louis Cardinals that we are not in fact stealing your signs. Well, not from a camera anyway.

The truth is that Thursday night the Cardinals sent Anthony Reyes to the mound. Now there are two things in Reyes' favor that are absolute kryptonite to the White Sox offense.

1. They have never seen him before. They had seen Mark Mulder plenty of times, and Jason Marquis before too. They always struggle against pitchers they've never seen. For instance, the Texas Rangers' John Rheineker. In his first start against the White Sox (In Chicago) he handcuffed the lineup and the Rangers won. A week and a half later, in Arlington, the Sox roughed him up.

2. The White Sox always struggle against pitchers with above average changeups. Reyes possesses a well above average changeup to go along with his 93MPH fastball. Another pitcher in the Sox division, Johan Santana, possesses a fantastic changeup, and the Sox have never been able to hit him well.

Personally I think the Cardinals were just a bit frustrated, and more than a bit embarrassed by their trip to Chicago in what some saw as a potential World Series matchup, and are venting those frustrations with these allegations.

I agree with you. The Sox weren't cheating. Like Guillen said today...THEY WERE FACING A GUY ON TUESDAY (MULDER) THAT WAS THROWING AN 82 MPH FASTBALL WITH NO MOVEMENT!

Although I would believe anything of Ozzie at this point. They picked the right guy to accuse of this.

Wow. If this is true and the Cards are accusing the White Sox of cheating, after that disaster of a series for the Cards, then they are not going to make the playoffs. They are beaten to death, and it wasn't because signs were or were not stolen.

You've got to be kidding me. This idiotic story again? The White Sox accused the Rangers of doing that this year. People need to stop being stupid.

LaRussa seems to be getting pretty whiny in his old age. After the '04 World Series he started complaining about the hotel arrangements in Boston. Now -that- is kinda stretching it.

It was a bad series for the Cards...they fell apart. But to anyone who rules the cards or the sox out of the playoffs...that is idiotic and well crap. St Louis has a great shot as well as the Sox. If it were me I would pick either Mets or St Louis to pull strong through the end of the season and make good in the playoffs. As for the cheating...I was at the game and it was bad...BAD pitching on the behalf of the Cards. Reyes-Hats off to the boy, threw a great 1 hit game. The Cards will be back on their horse, and every team has had downfall series.
