Which Current Last Place Team Has the Best Chance to not be Last?

The current last place teams in the MLB are currently:

  • Tampa Bay Devil Rays (AL East)

Runner Up: Baltimore Orioles

  • Kansas City Royals (AL Central)

Runner Up: Chicago White Sox

  • Texas Rangers (AL West)

Runner Up: Oakland Athletics

  • Washington Nationals (NL East)

Runner Up: Florida Marlins

  • Cincinnati Reds (NL Central)

Runners Up: Houston Astros/After that: Pittsburgh Pirates

  • San Francisco Giants (NL West)

Runner Up: Colorado Rockies

Well, in my opinion, the Giants are going to stay in last place. They are 12.5 games behind the division lead, and the fourth place team (Rockies) are only 5.5 games back. So, the Giants are eliminated, IMO.

Then we have the NL East. The Nationals are not doing so great either. They don't have much talent on their team excluding Chad Cordero and Dmitri Young and POSSIBLY Ryan Zimmerman. So they're eliminated.

That leaves us with four other divisions. I'm going to say that the Reds have the best chance at being a fourth place team. Look at who they have in second and third last: the Astros and Pirates; teams that are only 0.5 and 1.0 game behind them for last. The Reds didn't have the best start, especially with Bronson Arroyo not pitching good this year, and, well, the rest of their pitching is bad. If the offense keeps doing what they're doing, then they have the best chance in being a fifth, or maybe even a fourth place team in the NL Central.

What do you guys think?

I would definitely have to say the Reds... not necessarily because of anything that they do, but because the rest of that division is just so bad.

I am picking the Royals to climb out of last place this season. They have been beating some good teams lately and should do even better against the weaker teams.

That was my second pick. I had trouble deciding whether the Devil Rays or Royals would be after my pick (the Reds). I figured that pitching is everything. They aren't good in any pitching or offensive category. Nothing is going well for them, and with the fact that the Orioles are playing better ball than they did in the beginning of June, and the fact that the D-Rays have the least amount of wins in the league right now, I think the D-Rays are gonna be last.
