I suppose it is time to put all those naysayers and evil doers out to pasture as Arsenal are set to announce that manager Arsene Wenger has signed a new 3 year contract. Wenger joined Arsenal in 1996 after a managerial stint in the Japanese J-League with Nagoya Grampus Eight. This news is a welcome relief to me and hopefully many other Arsenal supporters out there. Wenger has been an incredible manager who has transformed the way the club plays. Many criticize Arsenal for not finishing off opponents or not having a "killer instinct" but, under Wenger the Gunners have always played elegant and beautiful football.
The BBC is reporting that the new deal will earn the Frenchman around £4m a year, money well spent if you ask me. Wenger's knack for discovering young, up and coming talent is second to none in the game. Right now he has assembled a brand new squad of dynamic young players and this new contract should stabilize the squad even further. Wenger himself seems rather enamored with this current crop of players by saying; "Since the beginning of the season something has been happening in this team. They fight for each other, they have a great togetherness and love for the game."
Under Wenger Arsenal achieved some glorious achievements; 3 Premier League titles and 4 FA Cups are testament to that. He also guided the club to the UEFA Champions League final in 2006 only to lose out to F.C. Barcelona in the end. This season the Gunners are off to a fast start in the league, where they are unbeaten, and have also secured passage to the Group Stage of the Champions League by eliminating Sparta Prague in the final qualification stage.
So a wonderful day is upon us Arsenal fans and here's hoping that this signing brings even more glory to the club and to one of the most respected people in the game.
