Where are the sports movies?

Whats up with Hollywood these days? The only decent sports movie this year was Blades of Glory and it was nothing short of a joke. What happened to all the great sports movies like Hoosiers or Friday Night Lights.

There's always been bad sports movies. The thing is you have about 80 years of sports movies to look back on and say "These few movies were really great." You're not even going to hear of a bad sports movie from 1962, but you will see Rocky on AMC, or you'll go out and rent Field of Dreams.

And I thought Benchwarmers was okay. I liked Cinderella Man. Million Dollar Baby won Best Picture (even though I HATED it). Gladiator also won Best Picture. I consider that movie to be a lot more like a boxing movie than an historical epic.

Sports movies in general are rarely considered great films. On IMDB.com's top 250 films list, the highest true sports film is Raging Bull at 70th. Million Dollar Baby is at 116. And Cinderella Man is at 238.
