Where are the classic games?

One thing that really aggravates me is nobody shows any classic games. If you look at CSTV, NBATV, ESPNCLASSIC, FCS-they show classic games but they water the games.  They skip plays, openings, halftime etc. Instead of showing the whole games, they show the same shows over and over again. They take a 3hr. or 3 and 1/2 hr. game and they water it down to two hours with their commercials. Look at ESPNCLASSIC,  they show Bull Riding, Poker, Karate, are you kidding me. They show "Classic Big Ticket" in which they take a great game and edit it down for an hour. People may say that it's too expensive to show the games but hey, it's ESPN. They make a ton of cash as well as CSTV, which I believe is owned by CBS. Now, The NFL Network showed classic SuperBowls in Jan. but that was because of it was near the superbowl. Where are they in the middle of March where their's nothing on the channel? Or June?

If I had money and resources I would start my own network. I would show classic nfl games, superbowls with commercials, nfl drafts etc. Same goes for MLB, NHL, etc.

Back to my original point, nobody shows classic games. I think fans would want to see classic games I mean, put it this way, would you rather watch a classic game or some show that you've seen or been repeated 50 times. I think the choice is obvious.

Problem is the rights, you couldn't get the rights to those games.  :( But I agree, I hate edited games, it feels like a waste of time, either the game was worth watching or it wasn't.

I usually don't like watching full classic games. I would rather them have interviews and commentary, presenting the game like a documentary.

I don't know about the commercials and halftime shows. But I agree with the fact all ESPN Classic shows latley is Bull Riding and other crappy Non-sports. I would love to see more games from the big 4 sports. NBA games from the 80's and early 90's. World Series Games. to give a couple of examples.

I usually don't like the full classic games either, but one channel that does show them is the Big Ten Network. Actually, I think this is the only thing BTN does right. Now if only everybody could get the stupid channel.

ESPN Classic is a joke. The most they show old games is around World Series, Super Bowl, NCAA Tournament, etc time. And they dont even show much then anyway. You're right, all they show is crappy stuff and American Gladiator re-runs.

They're not allowed to. The NFL only recently - for the first time ever - showed those Super Bowl telecasts and later, some classic games. They're notoriously private about their games (thats why you see NFL Films on ESPN so often).

As for MLB and NBA, they jacked up the prices once they launched their own channels (MLB has them online, NBA on Hardcourt Classics) and ESPN decided they aren't getting enough people to watch old games.

As for the NHL, who knows. Classic Canada shows maybe 7 or 8 games a week, and they're awesome as hell for it.

Also, pre, post and halftime broadcasts belong to the network, and ESPN would have to get rights from them as well as the league. And it's not really worth it just to show a two minute intro.

Also, the NFL has never rebroadcasted a draft. I'm not sure what the appeal would be, anyway - I, for one, can barely watch it live.

I prefer the classic NHL games on the NHL Network...it's fun to see old broadcasts of "Stars of the Future" like Brett Hull, Patrick Roy and Paul Coffey.
